Ex-Cowboys DE Foresees Caveat on Potential Power Struggle Between Deion Sanders and Jerry Jones

With Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys parting ways, the franchise is on the hunt to replace him for next season. Several names have been linked with the vacant job in Dallas.

However, Deion Sanders’ name has been ringing out the most. As such, former Cowboys DE Marcus Spears highlighted one issue that could be resolved with the hiring of Coach Prime.

Marcus Spears Expects a Lack of Power Struggle Between Deion Sanders and Jerry Jones

Jerry Jones has had a firm grip on America’s Team since he bought it in 1989. The 82-year-old, apart from being the owner, serves as the franchise’s president and general manager. This has been an issue for several coaches in the past.

During his appearance on ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” Spears tackled the issue of which man is fit to lead his former team in 2025 and beyond. “I’m super interested to see if Deion Sanders is going to get some interest in the job,” he said. “We know Jerry loves the flash. We know he loves to bring the attention, and no one would do that more than Prime.”

“Here’s the caveat about Prime. As much as you and I have talked over the years about Jerry and him not relinquishing power or control, Prime may be one guy that can at least go up to the office and say, ‘Jerry, let’s try it my way,’ because of the respect that I think Jerry has for Deion Sanders. So, it’s going to be super interesting.”

Cowboys fans have already given a thumbs up for Sanders to become the next head coach, despite the two-time Super Bowl winner’s reluctance.

Sanders Reveals His HC Job Talk With Jones

While a formal interview hasn’t been scheduled as of yet, Sanders and Jones are reported to be in touch. During Sanders’ ESPN appearance on Monday night, he revealed the effect Jones had on him during their latest talks.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders said. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body, and the community.”

Time and again, Sanders has stated his love for continuing to coach in Colorado. It will be interesting to see whether Jones can lure him away to The Star.
