The Deion Sanders-to-NFL coaching rumors are at their peak now that the 2025 NFL Draft chatter continues to catch fire, as many have theorized Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders’ landing spot will impact Coach Prime’s future as a head coach.
Coach Prime has been involved in a few NFL coaching rumors, including the Las Vegas Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys. Many analysts and fans believe that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will take the Shedeur-Deion package deal to overcome a disappointing 2024 season and rejuvenate their long-term vision.
Joel Klatt Discusses Deion Sanders’ Potential Coaching Future
Sanders’ meteoric rise with the Buffaloes has everyone wondering if he will eventually make the leap to the NFL. Joel Klatt, a former Buffaloes quarterback turned analyst, gave his two cents on the subject during a conversation he had with the Colorado HC.
“I asked him last Friday, do you want to go to the NFL?” Klatt revealed. “And he looked at me and said, ‘No.’”
Sanders explained that his true calling is mentoring young men at the college level, a role that he’s enjoying in Boulder. The 57-year-old Colorado HC further said, “I feel like I can do that better at the college level than I could with a bunch of professionals that might listen to me — or might not — because of the amount of money they’re being paid.”
However, Klatt did acknowledge the charm of the NFL, particularly if Sanders’ son Shedeur ends up on a team like the Cowboys.
Klatt: “Could he coach the Cowboys? Yes, and I think he would probably be really successful at it, but I also know he loves being at Colorado, and I won’t be surprised at all if he stays there.”
While s coaching move to Dallas feels like a real possibility, Colorado has just bagged a commitment from a five-star quarterback, Julian Lewis, which made many analysts regain faith in Coach Prime’s plans to continue building his legacy in Boulder.
Coach Prime has led a remarkable turnaround in Boulder after a 4-8 season last year. His focus on shaping young athletes remains central. Whether the NFL eventually calls is anyone’s guess, but Coach Prime seems firmly rooted in Colorado for the time being.
