Former Chiefs QB Sends Message to Kansas City’s Front Office After Embarrassing Loss in Super Bowl 59

Former Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel decodes what the coming offseason should look like for Kansas City before they step into the ring again.

The Kansas City Chiefs were on the brink of NFL history, aiming for an unprecedented three-peat in Super Bowl 59. Instead, they suffered a crushing 40-22 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles, exposing key weaknesses on both sides of the ball.

Now, as the team heads into a critical offseason, former Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel urged general manager Brett Veach to make bold moves to keep the dynasty alive.

Chase Daniel Suggests Chiefs Need To Address Roster Issues After Super Bowl 59 Loss

Daniel, who played for the Chiefs from 2013 to 2015, made an appearance on “The Facility” after Kansas City’s major loss. He made it clear that as long as Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are leading the team, the dynasty remains intact.

“The dynasty will never be over until Mahomes or Reid retires,” Daniel stated. “The two cornerstone pieces of the dynastic run are Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. As long as they’re there, the Chiefs dynasty is not over by any stretch of the imagination.”

However, he stressed that Veach needs to address key roster issues, just like he did after the team’s Super Bowl 55 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Kansas City rebuilt its offensive line.

“I do think this year in the offseason, Brett Veach is going to have to shine. He’s going to have to shine. But the thing is, he always does.”

The Chiefs are facing major salary cap constraints, with just $15.7 million in available cap space heading into the offseason. At the center of their financial dilemma is Mahomes’ massive contract, which carries a $66.2 million cap hit in 2025. The front office may need to restructure his deal, but doing so could create long-term financial headaches.

Meanwhile, several key players are set to hit the free agent market, including Nick Bolton, and Trey Smith. Daniel emphasized the importance of retaining core players

The Chiefs also need to upgrade their receiving corps to mend their weakness, which was evident throughout the season. While Rashee Rice is developing into a reliable target, the team still lacks a true No. 1 wide receiver, and Rice was out for the second half of the season and the entire postseason.

Daniel pointed out possible options, saying, “They have Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and DeAndre Hopkins all as free agents. They need a true No. 1.”

Additionally, Travis Kelce’s future remains uncertain, as the star tight end inches closer to the end of his career. Daniel acknowledged the challenge of replacing him, noting, “What about Travis Kelce? What happens if he walks away? You definitely aren’t going to be able to replace him.”

Despite the Super Bowl 59 disappointment, Daniel remains optimistic but knows the road ahead won’t be easy. This offseason could define the next chapter of their dynasty or mark the beginning of the end, depending on the route they take.
