The Kansas City Chiefs are on their way to making history as the only team to win three Super Bowls back-to-back, and their chances to do so seem higher than ever, especially after the electric win over the Houston Texans.
While many fans and analysts were in awe of Patrick Mahomes and Co.’s abilities, many called out the referees over a couple of controversial calls, predicting the NFL’s desire to help the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl and possibly make history.
If the Chiefs end up winning their third consecutive Super Bowl, Mahomes’ name will be forever engraved in the books — in rarefied company like Michael Jordan.
ESPN Host Predicts a Michael Jordan-Type Fate for Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes’ thrilling capabilities are not a secret to anyone, especially after he led the Chiefs toward a 23-14 win against the Texans to advance to the AFC Championship Game.
If Mahomes and his team make it to another AFC Championship next year, they’ll tie with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in having the most number of consecutive Conference Championship appearances.
Discussing Mahomes’ massive legacy that’s currently in the making, ESPN host Mike Greenberg talked about how winning a third consecutive Super Bowl would make the Chiefs quarterback a Michael Jordan equivalent of this era.
"Patrick Mahomes is playing to become the Michael Jordan of this era. When did Michael Jordan become Michael Jordan? When he three-peated."

He also mentioned how Michael Jordan had that level of impact because none of his rivals, including Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, had done what Jordan did, which is a three-peat.
“Patrick Mahomes is playing to become the Michael Jordan of this era. When did Michael Jordan become Michael Jordan? When he three-peated. That was something that Larry [Bird] hadn’t done, and Magic [Johnson] hadn’t done, and no one had done, going back right to the Celtics of the 60s. Jordan became Jordan because he had no rival.
“It’s not a rivalry. It’s a relationship that’s right until both sides have won. So right now, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes have a relationship. Until he [Allen] beats him [Mahomes], it is not a rivalry.”
The Bills will play the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC Championship showdown. This game will be a chance at redemption for quarterback Josh Allen, going 0-3 vs. Mahomes and the Chiefs in the postseason.
If the Bills win this matchup, it will be their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994, and if the Chiefs win the title, they’ll advance further in their quest for a mighty three-peat.
