NFL News and Rumors: Robert Griffin III Could Be Replaced by Jason Kelce on Monday Night Football Pregame Show

    Published on

After a successful NFL career, ESPN and other networks are aggressively pursuing former Eagles center Jason Kelce for their pregame shows.

One of the best offensive linemen ever, Jason Kelce, could already be getting the call to be on television.

In the first week of March, Kelce announced his retirement from the NFL after a long and successful 13-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles. During his last two seasons, Jason hosted a popular football podcast called “New Heights” with his brother, Travis. Now, it appears that Jason is being aggressively pursued by mainstream media outlets.

Jason Kelce Being Pursued for Monday Night Football

Kelce is a really popular free agent for the media networks after retiring from the Eagles. The former All-Pro offensive lineman has showcased his potential as a TV personality on the New Heights podcast, and television networks are lining up to recruit him for the 2024 NFL season.

Andrew Marchand at The Athletic mentions that while each of the NFL’s broadcasting partners has an interest in Kelce, it appears that ESPN is the most aggressive in signing him for their Monday Night Football pregame show to replace one of their current analysts.

Just one year after re-casting the set, with ESPN personality Scott Van Pelt as the host,  Robert Griffin III could lose his spot on the show. Legendary NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s role is “in limbo” as well, per Marchand.

The rest of the crew from last season appears to be returning for 2024, however, with Marcus Spears, Ryan Clark, and Michelle Beisner-Buck expected to retain their roles.

Kelce isn’t the only broadcasting free agent that ESPN is pursuing, though. According to Marchand, they’re also interested in former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who is interested in a less conventional role than being a studio analyst.

“Belichick is disinclined to be part of a regular studio show,” said Marchand, according to his sources. “ESPN could combine with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and NFL Films to secure the legendary coach for a broadcasting role.”

While ESPN is highly interested in Kelce, they’re not alone, as Marchand mentions CBS as another logical landing spot. According to him, CBS has several openings on their pregame show, as Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, Boomer Esiason, and Phil Simms all remain unsigned for 2024.

Although he won’t be suiting up for the Eagles any longer, we can expect to see plenty of Kelce for the foreseeable future as he jumpstarts his NFL broadcasting career. His next home remains to be seen, but he’ll surely be on our television sets for 2024 and beyond.
