Elijah Moore Waiver Wire Week 15: Should You Add the Jets WR Against the Lions?

Should fantasy football managers add New York Jets wide receiver Elijah Moore off the waiver wire to play against the Lions in Week 15?

Our eyes are on the Week 15 fantasy football waiver wire for players who could step into your lineup for an injured star as the fantasy playoffs get underway. Thankfully, bye weeks are over. But that doesn’t mean you won’t have to adjust on the fly as the injury reports unveil unexpected news.

One key matchup for fantasy managers and for the NFL playoff race is between the New York Jets and Detroit Lions. Let’s dive into whether you should add Jets wide receiver Elijah Moore off the waiver wire and start him in fantasy football against the Lions in Week 15.

Should You Add Elijah Moore From the Waiver Wire?

The Jets’ passing offense has fluctuated between incompetent and strong depending on which quarterback is under center. Zach Wilson cratered the fantasy value of the entire unit, whereas Mike White and Joe Flacco created significant production for the unit. White suffered a rib injury in Week 14 but has vowed to play through the injury despite being replaced by Flacco at the end of last week’s loss to Buffalo.

While White only led the Jets to 10 offensive points scored against Buffalo, the unit has a floor that is good for fantasy managers. The last thing Moore’s fantasy managers need is an uncertain quarterback situation. If Jets head coach Robert Saleh decides to go with Wilson, Moore is an easy pass for prospective managers who need receiving help.

You should also consider adding Moore to a weekly Best Ball tournament on Underdog Fantasy, where thousands of dollars are up for grabs in prizes every week.

Moore demanded a trade after seeing his target share drop as soon as Flacco was replaced with Wilson. The Jets opted against moving the talented second-year receiver, and Moore quickly saw his production rise again when Wilson was benched in favor of White. He’s coming off a season-high six catches in Week 14 and has two 60-plus-yard performances in the last three weeks.

If White starts, Moore is a fantasy option this week. But he’s not a great one just because of his own resume, but his viability increases especially while facing the Lions.

The Lions are the third-worst defense in the league against wide receivers. They allow an average of 14.5 receptions for 199.4 yards and one touchdown per game. It’s absolutely possible both Moore and Garrett Wilson become the latest receiving duo to light up the Lions, but only if White or Flacco start.

Moore was targeted eight times in five games with Wilson under center, compared to 16 times over the last two weeks with White. It’s rare that a starting quarterback is so much worse for a team’s No. 2 receiver, but the Jets are in a unique situation. Fantasy managers have to make a difficult decision early in the week on Moore because of the waiver wire order.

I would be more inclined to look elsewhere for a receiver than to roll the dice on Moore. He has only one touchdown on the season and has topped 53 yards just twice. Moore is a low-ceiling playmaker even with White starting.

Instead, Jameson Williams, TuTu Atwell, and Demarcus Robinson appear to be better additions for Week 15 than Moore. The last thing you want to be stuck with is Moore being overlooked in an offense led by Wilson.
