Week 1 of the NFL preseason is officially upon us as it brought with it the second look at the Pittsburgh Steelers and the first glimpse of the Philadelphia Eagles. Najee Harris gave Steelers fans hope in his debut last week, while Eagles fans are forced to wait to see DeVonta Smith, who is out for 2-3 weeks following an MCL sprain.
Eagles vs. Steelers score and results
Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | F | |
Steelers | 0 | 7 | 14 | 3 | 24 |
Eagles | 10 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 16 |
The Eagles ripped off a few impressive drives under starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, but were unable to convert to more than three points with Hurts at the helm. Still, Hurts looked sharp and finished the outing with 54 yards on just three completions and saw two catchable passes dropped.
The Eagles starting lineup clearly looked out of sync despite Hurts impressing as tight end Zach Ertz dropped a sure first down and the offensive line struggled to grant much in the run game. Philadelphia’s defense stymied Pittsburgh’s starters but at times also showed their first-game jitters.
In a common case from years past, the Eagles secondary struggled to stop much in the air. Pittsburgh quarterbacks finished the game completing a combined 29-of-37 attempts for 268 yards and a touchdown. Philadelphia’s defense also struggled to stop the Pittsburgh rushing attack in the second half as they ground out 11 first downs and 152 yards on the ground.
Jake Elliott was the star of the game for Philadelphia, nailing two 47-yard field goals and another 50-yard kick. Rico Bussey and Anthony Johnson were late-game stars for the Steelers, combining for 6 receptions, 83 yards, and 1 touchdown on the evening.
