How Many Viewers Tuned Into Eagles vs. Cowboys? Sunday’s Contest Drew Record Numbers

    Published on

The Eagles and Cowboys pulsating battle drew watchful eyes in Week 9, but did the contest shatter new records? Here's how many tuned in.

The Week 9 NFC East showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys came with serious NFL playoff vibes.

Turns out, the number of viewers who watched nearly matched the number of views for Super Bowl 57.

How Many People Watched Eagles vs. Cowboys?

According to FOX Sports public relations, “America’s Game of the Week” between the NFC title contenders drew in a total of 27,136,000 viewers.

That number alone made it the most-watched game of the 2023 season and the most-watched NFL game since this past Super Bowl between the Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.

What else did the game accomplish? FOX PR revealed that the number of viewers went up 34% over last year’s comparable window.

Which NFL 2023 Game Did Eagles-Cowboys Surpass?

Again, FOX holds the new title of having the most-watched NFL regular-season game for 2023.

The Chiefs at the New York Jets battle back on Oct. 1 held that title previously. However, that game drew many watchful eyes due to country/pop sensation Taylor Swift being in attendance.

It became the first road game for the multiple Grammy winner who’s been romantically linked to Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce. Chiefs versus Jets was also her second K.C. game since being linked to the two-time Super Bowl winner.

But with no renowned celebrity at Lincoln Financial Stadium, viewers still became glued to a pulsating division battle between two fierce rivals. It was a game involving serious NFC playoff implications as the league has reached its halfway point.

Furthermore, networks that feature the Cowboys or Eagles in a prime-time slot continue to get soaring ratings. Both teams have become heavily pushed by networks to have their games aired off the star talent on both sides and, historically, coming with a massive fan base.

Another reason that the Eagles-Cowboys game received massive viewership was because the game came down to the wire.

Dallas nearly pulled off the road win by getting the ball back with 46 seconds left, starting at their own 14-yard line. The Cowboys then gained 36 yards on a crucial pass interference call.

There were two more assists on the Cowboys’ side with a roughing the passer call and encroachment penalty — placing the ball at the Eagles’ 6-yard line. However, the final four plays saw Dallas go backward.

Dak Prescott was sacked by Josh Sweat, which lost 11 yards. Then there was an incomplete pass intended for Jalen Tobert. Next, Dallas was called for a delay of game.

Then, with one final shot at the Eagles’ 27-yard line, Prescott hit CeeDee Lamb inside the red zone. The All-Pro wideout, however, was stopped short of the goal line and fumbled on his lateral attempt with zero time remaining on the clock.

The next time the two teams meet, it won’t be in front of the FOX cameras. Philadelphia and Dallas are scheduled to meet again in Arlington, Texas, on Dec. 10 for NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
