Are the Philadelphia Eagles preparing for one more big move? One NFL insider says the defending NFC champs have picked up their phone with trade talks.

It appears the Philadelphia Eagles aren’t through with just adding seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones late in the season.

On Saturday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the defending NFC champs could be making more splash moves before the NFL’s trade deadline.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

Insider Shares That Eagles GM Howie Roseman Is Active Ahead of Trade Deadline

Around this time of year, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman becomes one of the more active and aggressive executives, always looking to bolster his roster.

Russini says this season, Roseman is no different.

“Eagles general manager Howie Roseman always has some magic up his sleeve, and he’s been working the phone,” Russini wrote.

Who the Eagles could be pursuing wasn’t mentioned. However, Russini addressed the state of one offensive option that has been the subject of trade rumblings.

“The Eagles are apparently staying put on running back Rashaad Penny, knowing depth will be necessary for a team that should be making a long postseason run,” Russini said.

However, Russini revealed the spot on the field the Eagles are aiming to address.

“Philly is looking to make some additions on defense after they suffered a handful of injuries in the defensive backfield, specifically targeting a safety,” Russini said.

Could One NFC South Safety Be on the Move?

While not directly linked to the Eagles, it’s worth noting that Jeremy Chinn of the Carolina Panthers could be an option worth targeting.

Chinn’s name was mentioned in Russini’s report as a possible Panthers star on the move, saying how the team “will listen in on” any trade offer involving the 25-year-old. Chinn, however, is dealing with a current ailment that could thwart a trade.

“The young safety is dealing with a quad injury that could get him back on the field by December, a team source shared with The Athletic. This injury could make a trade undesirable for another team, but the player is still considered available,” Russini wrote.

Chinn isn’t the only safety who could get moved.

One More Safety Has ‘Received Calls’

Staying in the South but switching conferences, Kevin Byard is one name to watch, per Russini. She says that the Tennessee Titans have received calls regarding the two-time Pro Bowler, who has played his entire career in Nashville.

Byard has bounced between free and strong safety, which would benefit the Eagles greatly in having some potential positional versatility. Injuries have also never been an issue for Byard, as he’s started in every game since the 2017 season.

But he’s yet to record an interception this season and has gone two years without a tackle for a loss. He’s also starting to look like a defender too expensive to keep, as his 2023 base salary stands at $9.6 million.

The Eagles have been no strangers in adding veteran talent late. Before their Super Bowl 57 run, the franchise added Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh to the defensive line before winning the NFC title.
