Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert added some fuel to the fire as he said he wanted to stiff-arm the Green Bay Packers defender who tried to tackle him while he was en route to scoring a touchdown. He said he slowed down on purpose just so he could shove defensive back Carrington Valentine out of the way.
Dallas Goedert Wanted To Stiff Arm Defender, Slowed Down To Let Him Catch Up
Philadelphia is a rough-and-tumble city. They even booed Santa Claus. The hockey team is known as the Broad Street Bullies. The City of Brotherly Love is anything but.
Therefore, you will have to forgive Goedert as he slowed down to just give a series of stiff arms to Valentine, who tried to prevent him from crossing the goal line.
“The last one was unnecessary for sure,” Goedert said to teammates after the 24-yard score. “This one? Oh, why not? I slowed down so he can come and get some.”
During the run, he used his stiff arm three times to get defenders off his trail. It looked rather humiliating.
The Eagles built a steady drive, reaching 2nd-and-1 from the Packers’ 24-yard line. A simple pick play for Goedert on the left sideline was the idea to move the sticks. However, the TE had ideas of his own. Taking off in one motion, Goedert was a legitimate man among boys near the left sideline.
Goedert took it into the end zone for the fourth touchdown of his playoff career. Despite missing a portion of the season with injury, he was coming off one of the more impressive seasons of his career, averaging nearly 50 receiving yards a game.
.@goedert33 really gave out an extra stiff arm just for the fun of it. 😂

Here is the play in question. Watch the stiff arms along the way as Goedert runs to the end zone.

The touchdown gave the Eagles a 16-3 lead in the third quarter. Green Bay never recovered.
Goedert said after the game the score was his favorite of all of the touchdowns he ever scored.
“That was a really fun play. It might be my favorite touchdown of my career,” Goedert said. “I had one guy to beat and I was able to do that. I’m not ready to go home, and I was going to do whatever it took to help the team get the ‘W.’”
Alongside A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Goedert gives the Eagles a more well-rounded and balanced attack. As a result, they sport the 14th-ranked offense in the league, according to PFN’s Offense+ metric.
However, with arguably the best running back in the league and the fourth-ranked quarterback, according to PFN’s QB+ metric, Philadelphia could always explode for a high score.
