It’s no secret that Saquon Barkley has had one of the best seasons for a running back in NFL history, becoming one of nine players to ever rush for over 2,000 yards in a season. He also has a chance to break the record for most rushing yards ever in a season, including the playoffs as he needs just 29 yards to tie this record (30 to break it).
The Philadelphia Eagles sensation took his opportunity to take a jab at the New York Giants nearly a year after they passed up on re-signing him in free agency.
Saquon Barkley Jokes With Jameis Winston Saying the Giants Need a QB
Barkley’s success has been a huge factor in the Eagles’ run to the Super Bowl as he’s had some of the most explosive runs in playoff history already. Now, as he’s getting set to play on the biggest stage, he took Super Bowl media day as an opportunity to take a shot at the Giants.
Jameis Winston asked Barkley, “Who’s gonna sign me in free agency?” to which the RB responded with, “I think New York needs a quarterback right now.”

While some might consider this to be classless, Barkley is not wrong by any means. Without the star running back, they went just 3-14 this season. After signing a four-year, $160 million contract this offseason, Daniel Jones had a rough season, to say the least. In 10 games this season, Jones threw for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
His play was so poor that the Giants wound up waiving him at the end of November before he signed with the Minnesota Vikings to be a backup. Considering Barkley is about to compete for a championship, one player’s future is certainly looking brighter than the other’s.
That said, this wasn’t a jab at Jones as he’s not even on the Giants anymore but more so to the team as they elected to pay Jones over Barkley. Despite being one of the best players in the NFL, Barkley cost just $3.8 million this season against the cap with an annual average value (AAV) of $12.583 million. For comparison, DeVonta Smith, the Eagles’ WR2, has an AAV of $25 million this season, nearly double Barkley’s.

The decision to not pay Barkley will forever haunt the Giants’ organization as he’s been a complete difference maker on one of their division rivals and given them a trip to Super Bowl 59. Jalen Hurts complements Barkley’s game beautifully as they open up opportunities for each other that they wouldn’t have seen if another player was in their place.
With all that being said, all things considered, Barkley could’ve said much worse. Even so, that has to sting if you’re the Giants.
