Eagles Rookie CB Quinyon Mitchell Already Impressing A.J. Brown, Brandon Graham

Philadelphia Eagles rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell is already impressing A.J. Brown and Brandon Graham during mandatory minicamp.

Following an embarrassing end to last season, it was clear that the Philadelphia Eagles needed to address the team’s secondary in 2024. That is exactly why the Eagles selected cornerback Quinyon Mitchell in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Despite questions about the level of competition Mitchell faced at Toledo, the 22-year-old cornerback is already impressing veteran players during mandatory minicamp in Philadelphia.

Eagles Star WR A.J. Brown Appreciates Quinyon Mitchell’s Trash Talk

As Mitchell begins to prepare for his rookie season in the NFL, he’s lucky to battle against one of the league’s best wide receivers in practice each day. On Tuesday, Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown was asked about Mitchell during his press conference.

Brown admitted that Mitchell has a quiet demeanor but also discussed a hilarious interaction that he had with the rookie CB during practice.

“Q doesn’t talk as much, I don’t think you all know that, he doesn’t really say anything,” Brown said. “And the first words I heard from him was like, ‘Hey, that route was trash.'”

While Brown appreciated Mitchell’s trash talk, he also used it as a teaching moment for Philadelphia’s promising rookie.

“I want to see him hold his own,” Brown said. “I told him, I said, ‘Alright, you took the first step. Now you have to back it up. You’re going to have to walk that walk.'”

Although cornerback is one of the toughest positions for rookies to play, Mitchell isn’t lacking any confidence. And it’s certainly promising to hear him talking trash to Brown. The battles between them in practice will only make the team better.

Brandon Graham Believes Mitchell Has Played ‘As Advertised’

Brandon Graham understands the pressure of performing as a young defensive player in Philadelphia. Unhappy Eagles fans had constantly reminded Graham that the Eagles selected him over former All-Pro safety Earl Thomas in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Fast-forward to 2024, and Graham is regarded as a legend in Philadelphia and remains a team captain. During his press conference on Wednesday, he was asked about his thoughts on the Eagles’ latest first-round pick.

“Q, that boy is as advertised,” Graham said. “As far as you know, seeing him out there, playing fast. You see why he went in the first round.”

Graham also recalled Mitchell’s interaction with Brown during practice. While he admitted that Mitchell is mostly quiet, Philadelphia’s team captain seemed to appreciate that he was already talking trash to arguably the best offensive player on the team.

“I was kind of surprised to see him talking stuff to A.J. (Brown) one day,” Graham said. “And I was like, okay, I like his attitude.”

Although Mitchell has yet to cement himself as the starting outside corner opposite of Darius Slay, he is impressing his teammates. Mitchell has steadily climbed up the depth chart, having received first-team reps at multiple positions during Wednesday’s practice.
