The Philadelphia Eagles have lost several key players in free agency, including 2024 sack leader Josh Sweat, after winning last year’s Super Bowl. Already thin on defense, the Eagles are now reportedly open to trading pass rusher Bryce Huff and tight end Dallas Goedert.

Eagles Open To Trading Bryce Huff and Dallas Goedert
Goedert has been a key part of Philadelphia’s offense in recent years and was their third-leading receiver during last season’s Super Bowl campaign. He caught 42 passes for 496 yards and two touchdowns in 10 regular-season games, then added 17 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs, helping the Eagles win it all.
While Goedert was Philadelphia’s second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Huff arrived last year through free agency. He signed a three-year, $51.1 million deal in 2024 yet played just 27% of the defensive snaps, finishing with 2.5 sacks in 12 games.
FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Eagles are open to trade talks involving Huff and Goedert, possibly looking to build draft capital after signing Harrison Bryant and Joshua Uche in free agency.
“Sources: The #Eagles have been open to trade talks involving TE Dallas Goedert and DE Bryce Huff. Goedert is in the final year of his deal, while Huff — one of last year’s big free-agent signings — has seen limited playing time due to Philly’s deep rotation,” Schultz tweeted.

Philadelphia currently has Grant Calcaterra and Bryant as its top tight ends, while Nolan Smith headlines the Eagles’ edge rush rotation, which also includes Jalyx Hunt and Uche.
Goedert is in the final year of his four-year, $57 million extension signed in 2021. If traded, he would leave the Eagles with 4,085 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns on 349 career receptions. Meanwhile, Huff carries a $7.51 million cap hit and is looking like one of Howie Roseman’s biggest free agent misfires.
Notable Departures on Defense Leave Eagles Weaker
Philadelphia’s defense has taken some major hits, losing Pro Bowl pass rusher Sweat, rising defensive tackle Milton Williams, and veteran cornerback Darius Slay Jr. All three were key pieces of Philadelphia’s dominant defense.
After being drafted in the fourth round in 2018, Sweat spent seven seasons in Philadelphia, racking up 43 sacks and 97 quarterback hits. He signed a four-year, $76.4 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
Williams, a third-round pick in 2021, started 19 of 67 career games over four seasons. His best year came in 2024, when he posted five sacks and 10 QB hits. The 26-year-old signed a four-year, $104 million contract with the New England Patriots, the largest total contract value of any free agent this offseason.
Slay, acquired in a 2020 trade, made the Pro Bowl three times in five seasons with the Eagles. He recorded two pick-sixes and 11 tackles for loss in that span. Though his 2024 season was his worst in Philadelphia, he still landed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Additionally, Philadelphia traded 27-year-old safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans. In his two seasons with the Eagles, Gardner-Johnson recorded six interceptions each year, leading the NFL in 2022.
While the Eagles remain a strong contender, their dominant defense has clearly taken a hit.
One positive move before free agency was re-signing Zack Baun, keeping the linebacker corps intact. However, losing Slay, Williams, and Sweat still far outweighs any positive impact from Baun’s return.
