Philadelphia Eagles News, April 13: DeVonta Smith Contract Update, CB Nate Wiggins Mocked to Eagles, and More

Here's the latest Philadelphia Eagles news, including an updated mock draft and information on DeVonta Smith's upcoming extension.

Now that the dust has settled on the NFL‘s free agency, it’s all hands on deck as the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for the 2024 NFL Draft.

    Philadelphia Eagles News Today

After an 11-6 finish, good for second place in the NFC East, the Eagles have the No. 22 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

While the draft is a priority, GM Howie Roseman will continue to negotiate contracts with existing players to keep them in Philadelphia.

Catch up on these headlines and more in today’s Eagles news.

DeVonta Smith Reportedly Staying Patient on New Contract

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles and wide receiver DeVonta Smith have kept in touch throughout the offseason regarding a new contract.

While the ball is rolling on an extension, Fowler notes that Smith is not in a rush to sign anything due to all of the big-money receiver extensions that will happen soon.

In three seasons with the Eagles, the Heisman-winning receiver has already racked up over 3,100 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. Still just 25 years old, it feels like a no-brainer for the Eagles to extend the No. 10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to a long-term deal.

At such a young age with proven NFL production, Smith will likely vault into a top-five-paid receiver when he signs his extension. According to PFN’s Anthony DiBona, expect Smith to sign a long-term deal worth roughly $25 million per year.

Eagles Select CB Nate Wiggins in Consensus Mock Draft

In Pro Football Network’s latest consensus mock draft, the Eagles are projected to draft Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins with the No. 22 overall pick.

While it’s unlike Roseman to use a top pick on a cornerback, the Eagles need to fix their secondary, and adding a speedster like Wiggins would be a big step in the right direction.

The mock draft indicates that DT Byron Murphy II, EDGE Laiatu Latu, S Cooper DeJean, EDGE Chop Robinson, and offensive tackles Tyler Guyton and Graham Barton also received consideration for this draft pick.

Defensive tackle Milton Williams was named the No. 8 defensive tackle while Josh Sweat was ranked as the No. 4 best available EDGE.
