Which TE Dynasty Values Changed Following Free Agency?

    Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons

Easily the biggest beneficiary of free agency, Kyle Pitts saw his dynasty value go from on life support to alive and well.

The main tenet of dynasty fantasy football is to buy talent. But there are only so many consecutive years a seemingly talented player can underwhelm before fantasy managers start to question his value.

Pitts averaged 10.4 fantasy points per game as a rookie. Despite surpassing 1,000 yards, he only scored one touchdown. Naturally, fantasy managers expected positive regression and big things for him as a sophomore. Unfortunately, Pitts underwhelmed, averaging 7.6 and 8.1 fantasy points per game, respectively, in each of the past two seasons.

While Pitts definitely shoulders plenty of the blade, reports that he wasn’t fully healthy in 2023 explained the poor route running he put on film. Plus, he suffered through some of the worst quarterback play imaginable.

Now, Pitts’ dynasty value has been revived by the arrival of Kirk Cousins, who is poised to be in Atlanta for the next three years.

We know Cousins can support multiple fantasy-relevant receivers. He did it in Minnesota with Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. With the Falcons, it will be Drake London and Pitts. The tight end went from falling out of the top 12 to back in the top six.

    Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars were always going to sign a wide receiver. With Calvin Ridley a free agent and Zay Jones unable to stay healthy, they needed to add a piece. That guy easily could’ve been a serious threat to Evan Engram‘s target share. Instead, they signed Gabe Davis.

If you zoom in very closely at Davis, you may notice he looks exactly like Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Davis is there to run straight and fast. He will occasionally make some big downfield plays, but otherwise won’t interfere with Engram’s status as the team’s No. 2 option in the passing game behind Christian Kirk.

Even if the team brings back Ridley, Engram’s role should remain intact. Coming off the best season of his career that saw him average 13.6 fantasy points per game, Engram, entering his age-30 season, should have another solid 3-4 years of TE1 production ahead of him.

    Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans

It’s been a shaky two years for Dalton Schultz‘s dynasty value. He played out the 2022 season on the franchise tag and the 2023 season on a one-year deal. Schultz’s future has been unclear for three years now, which is not what dynasty managers want in any player.

Now, we know the deal. Schultz will be in Houston for at least the next three seasons. That gives fantasy managers clarity and enables them to value Schultz properly.

Competing for targets with Nico Collins and Tank Dell will likely prevent Schultz from ever reaching the heights of his 2021 season when he averaged 12.3 fantasy ppg. However, the 10.0 points per game from last season is just fine.

Schultz is tethered to C.J. Stroud, who is already one of the five best quarterbacks in the league. As Stroud gets even better, so will this offense. All it would take for Schultz to have an outlier year is for Stroud to have an outlier touchdown performance, which is very much possible.

Schultz is unlikely to ever be a league-winner, but he should be a reliable tight end for at least the next three years.
