The son of former NFL quarterback Terry Nugent, Drake Nugent was a three-star prospect out of the state of Colorado. Drake split time between offensive and defensive line in high school while also winning three consecutive state championships in shot put. Nugent committed to Stanford out of high school.

Nugent played in just three games in 2019 and 2020 but earned the starting center job with the Cardinal in 2021. Nugent was named an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention that year and was named to the preseason watch lists for the Outland and Rimington Trophy. After earning a team captainship in 2022 and another All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention bid, Nugent transferred from Stanford after head coach David Shaw was fired.

Nugent transferred to Michigan, earning the starting job and starting all 15 games. He earned an All-Big Ten First-Team nomination in 2023 and was named a finalist for the Rimington Trophy for best center in college football.

    Current Draft Projection and Summary

Drake Nugent is an undersized center-only prospect in the NFL.

All of Nugent’s issues stem from his lack of size, length, and athleticism. He is a smart, experienced, and technically sound center.

However, he lacks the size to handle NFL power, can get beat by more athletic rushers, and longer defensive linemen can get into his chest with ease to win reps.

Nugent is a functional backup caliber center in a zone-based offense.
