Donald Parham Jr. Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up Chargers TE this Week?

Should fantasy football managers sign Donald Parham Jr. as he has scored touchdowns on 32.5% of his catches on the season?

The Los Angeles Chargers got a big win on Sunday night, as they defeated the Chicago Bears, 30-13. QB Justin Herbert had a big day, throwing for 298 yards and three touchdowns.

He found RB Austin Ekeler, WR Simi Fehoko, and TE Donald Parham Jr. each for a touchdown. Parham, in particular, has been a touchdown magnet this year, as 32.5% of his catches this year have finished in the end zone.

With that in mind, should fantasy football managers be looking to sign Parham off the waiver wire this week?

Should Donald Parham Jr. Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 9?

Any time you see a receiver scoring touchdowns on 32.5% of his catches, that definitely catches your eye. The only issue for Parham is that he only has 13 catches on the season. Still, the four touchdowns make this at least a legitimate question.

WR Keenan Allen is the leading receiver for the Chargers this year, as he has 54 catches. He also has four touchdowns, which is tied with Parham for the team lead.

The Chargers are deep at the tight end position — Parham isn’t even the most targeted tight end on the team. That is Gerald Everett, who has 19 catches on the year and two touchdowns.

While those four scores for Parham are nice, it doesn’t even outweigh the lack of catches. Two of those touchdowns came in the same game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. Those were his only two catches in the game, and he had only four yards.

The Chargers’ TE has had three games this year where he finished with 1.7, 1.9, and 2.9 fantasy points while playing in another game where he didn’t register a catch.

Stay away from Parham for the moment because there is just too much bust opportunity right now to have him in your lineup. He needs to put together multiple games with a higher amount of targets before you consider getting into a bidding war over him.

Everett is still the Chargers’ top tight end target, but Herbert has several other options to pass to on the team. Allen is the go-to wide receiver, while guys like WRs Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer (if healthy) are others that Herbert is going to look toward. Additionally, Los Angeles relies on the running back more than most teams in the league, so Ekeler is going to get the ball a lot.

If Parham can show that he is going to catch more passes, then he will certainly become an option. For now, though, he’s not a necessary pickup off the waiver wire.
