Miami Dolphins RB De’Von Achane is confident that the 2025 NFL season will be great. He joined the “Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams” and set a lofty goal for himself. After taking the starting role from Raheem Mostert following Mostert’s career year, Achane was a shining light in a poor Dolphins season.
De’Von Achane’s Bold Prediction for the 2025 Season
Achane improved on his rookie season as he became the clear number-one RB in Miami. He failed to break 1,000 rushing yards with only 907 yards on the ground but was a big contributor catching the ball out of the backfield with 78 receptions and 592 receiving yards.
Achane was asked whether 2,000 yards was in the cards for next season. “Why not,” Achane replied.
Achane can reach 2,000 total yards next season if he keeps improving, as he has been the past two seasons. He will need to improve rushing the ball as he received 100 more carries this season and only had 107 yards more in 2024. His yards per attempt dropped from 7.8 to 4.5. If he can recapture some of the frequent explosiveness he had in his rookie season, Achane will be well on his way to achieving his goal.
The Dolphins offense struggled quite a bit when QB Tua Tagovailoa was out with various injuries this season. Achane started to get in a rhythm, catching passes out of the backfield when Tagovailoa returned from an early concussion. However, once Tagovailoa picked up a hip injury late in the season, Achane found a groove in the last few games as he tallied two 100+-yard rushing performances.
Miami Dolphins’ 2025 Outlook
The Dolphins failed to make the playoffs and struggled in Tagovailoa’s absence. Therefore, the main key to success in Miami will be keeping Tagovailoa upright and healthy. They struggled when QBs Skylar Thompson and Tyler Huntley were forced to start. Achane’s receiving was massively improved during Tagovailoa’s starts, and the overall passing game was better.
Achane’s explosiveness will need to be a big weapon for the offense. Bringing that back more frequently can create a new dynamic. While the increase in workload can likely explain why Achane didn’t break off nearly as many big runs, its disappearance can also be attributed to the lack of passing during Tagovailoa’s absence.
The explosiveness in the passing game was also missing quite frequently. Star WR Tyreek Hill only had 959 yards after having 1,799 yards the season before. This season was Hill’s lowest total since 2019. Failing to reach 1,000 yards for only the third time in his career, he was very frustrated with the season. Getting Hill back to top form will have to happen if the Dolphins want to have a successful season.
The Dolphins have the weapons to bounce back. Tagovailoa’s health will be the most prominent concern going into next season. But if Achane follows through on his bold prediction of 2,000 yards and Hill returns to the player he’s been throughout his career, the Dolphins should again find themselves in the playoff hunt.
