Miami Dolphins News, April 6: Dolphins Solidify D-Line With Teair Tart, Trade Back in Latest Mock Draft, and More

    Published on

Here's the latest Miami Dolphins news, including an updated mock draft and free agency reactions involving Teair Tart.

The Miami Dolphins have been one of the busier teams in the NFL this offseason, and that has continued into the first week of April as they signed defensive tackle Teair Tart.

The Dolphins lost Christian Wilkins in free agency as well as Emmanuel Ogbah, so replacing that production with Tart on a one-year deal makes sense.

As free agency calms, the Dolphins will now look forward to the NFL Draft. Let’s catch up on today’s Miami Dolphins news.

Do the Dolphins Have Enough D-Line Help?

After signing Tart, Miami’s defensive line is in much better shape than it was after the first day of free agency. However, while they might have enough quantity, do the Dolphins have enough quality players up front defensively?

“While this signing certainly does not preclude the Dolphins from taking a defensive lineman early in this month’s NFL Draft, it makes the need a little less glaring,” Dolphins reporter Adam H. Beasley wrote.

Tart is a big rotational defensive lineman who is expected to complement Zach Sieler, Benito Jones, and Neville Gallimore.

Dolphins Trade Back in Latest NFL Mock Draft

In Brian Blewis’ latest 2024 first-round mock draft, the Dolphins received a third-round pick and No. 24 overall from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for No. 21.

The Cowboys drafted versatile offensive lineman Amarius Mims with Miami’s draft pick.

Three selections later, the Dolphins drafted defensive lineman Byron Murphy II out of Texas. Even after adding Tart in free agency, the Dolphins still have a need for defensive help. Jaelan Phillips is recovering from a ruptured Achilles, and Bradley Chubb is working back from a torn ACL.

Murphy helps solidify Miami’s defensive line after losing key veterans in free agency. He had 70 total tackles and eight sacks in three seasons with the Longhorns.

Dolphins Reporter Says Drafting Brian Thomas Jr. Would Unlock Endless Possibilities for Miami’s Offense

After building a solid roster on a budget in free agency, Dolphins reporter Beasley wants to see GM Chris Grier take a risk in the first round of the NFL Draft.

While wide receiver is not a big need for the Dolphins, who recently spent a first-round pick on Jaylen Waddle and a ton of cash on Tyreek Hill, it’s still an intriguing option in a loaded class.

It’s no secret the Dolphins have poked around the idea of adding a quality third receiver to complement Hill and Waddle. They recently reportedly had an interest in Tyler Boyd and met with Odell Beckham Jr.

Brian Thomas Jr. joining the Dolphins would give Mike McDaniel by far the best and deepest wide receiver room in football,” Beasley wrote.
