Should I Draft DK Metcalf? Fantasy Outlook for the Seahawks’ WR in 2024

Draft DK Metcalf in fantasy football for his elite size, speed, and red zone dominance. He's a high-ceiling WR1 with consistent big-play potential.

DK Metcalf is the alpha wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks have finally moved on from the Pete Carroll regime and have brought in Mike Macdonald to lead the charge.

With MacDonald comes a new offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, who looks to raise the potential of Metcalf’s fantasy football outlook in 2024. Grubb brings a pass-happy offensive scheme to the mix, which can help all the pass-catchers in Seattle.

Let’s break down Metcalf’s fantasy outlook for 2024.

DK Metcalf’s Fantasy Profile For The 2024 Season

Last season, on a Seahawks offense that scored the 17th-most points in the NFL, Metcalf still shined.

On 119 targets, Metcalf produced 66 receptions, 1,114 yards, and eight touchdowns. His eight touchdowns were the eighth-highest in the NFL for 2023.

Geno Smith loved to find Metcalf deep down the field, which resulted in the league’s fourth-highest yards per reception.

TruMedia said Metcalf also dominated air yards per target, as his 12.85 was the 16th-best in the NFL.

No matter how you slice the pie, Metcalf is the alpha receiver in Seattle. Grubb intends to use the big-body wide receiver in his offensive scheme, which helped his former team, the Washington Huskies, tear through the NCAA on the road to the National Championship Game.

Metcalf puts his big body to good use when between the lines. He will use his 6’3″ and 229-pound frame to help win, especially in the red zone. The Seahawks were smart and fed him the fifth-most targets in the red zone, with 23 total targets.

Even scoring six touchdowns on those targets, Metcalf has room to improve his dominance in the red zone as he only turned 43.5% of those targets into receptions, which was the league’s 108th-best overall mark.

Is Metcalf a Good Fantasy Pick?

The answer is Metcalf is a must-pick for your fantasy team this season. His average draft position (ADP) is 42 overall, which makes him a fourth-round pick.

Obtaining a WR1 for your team in the fourth round is always a wise decision when drafting. It also helps that he has room to grow within the red zone, where his quarterback feels comfortable peppering him with targets.

Finally, Metcalf receives an offensive system upgrade that skews to the passing game, which will also help in the red zone and any play, regardless of field position.

We even avoid a rough bye week as Metcalf serves his bye week in Week 10.

Everything comes up roses for Metcalf, and if you add that his quarterback is due for positive regression with this new offensive scheme, you should be over the moon if you get to draft Metcalf in the 2024 fantasy football season.
