DK Metcalf Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

Following a better-than-expected campaign, what does DK Metcalf's future look like, and what is his value in dynasty fantasy football leagues going forward?

As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty fantasy football value of DK Metcalf.

DK Metcalf’s Dynasty Outlook and Value

After the Seahawks traded away Russell Wilson, Metcalf’s dynasty value took a hit. This was especially the case after he locked himself in with Seattle for three more seasons, signing a three-year, $72 million extension before the 2022 campaign. He won’t be a free agent until 2026.

What many fantasy managers failed to account for, or rather, weigh properly, is that Metcalf was a 24-year-old super athlete with a proven track record. Of course, no one expected Geno Smith to be a massive quarterback upgrade, either. But the mere possibility that Metcalf’s quarterback situation wasn’t nearly as bad as expected warranted valuing him higher than most of us did prior to 2022.

Metcalf didn’t light the world on fire last season, but he was better than anticipated. He caught a career-high 90 passes on a career-high 141 targets for 1,048 yards. The only reason Metcalf’s ppg dropped to 13.3 was the lack of touchdowns. After scoring 12 and 10 in the previous two seasons, respectively, Metcalf only found the end zone six times in 2022. Four more touchdowns would’ve put Metcalf close to 15 ppg, which is high-end WR2 status.

The thing is, Metcalf actually saw a significant increase in red-zone targets. His 27 were second in the league. Sadly, he only caught nine of them.

Metcalf’s 2022 season sure looks like his floor. He’s an alpha WR1 with a quarterback situation that is unlikely to get worse.

As I anticipated, the Seahawks brought Smith back. They locked him up for the next three years. Given the state of the quarterback position in the NFL right now, any outcome other than Smith returning would have been a serious problem for the Seahawks.

    DK Metcalf’s Fantasy Ranking

Metcalf is just 25 years old. In a worst-case scenario, he should still be a low-end WR2 this coming season, and he’s young enough for fantasy managers to be able to wait until the Seahawks figure out their quarterback situation.

Metcalf is someone I’d look to acquire in dynasty leagues. He’s been in the league four years already, so he doesn’t have that new car smell dynasty managers love so much. But he’s still got at least six quality years in front of him. Metcalf still possesses top-five upside, but he won’t cost anywhere near that much, making him a very desirable fantasy asset.

He currently sits at WR12 (No. 34 overall) in our dynasty Superflex rankings. I can’t say I disagree. Metcalf is definitely someone I’d target in dynasty startup drafts.
