Should Fantasy Football Managers Trade DJ Moore?

After a relatively down year with the Carolina Panthers in 2022, Moore was given a fresh start this offseason after being traded to the Bears. Moore was drafted as the WR20 overall in PPR formats, as many felt the three-time 1,000-yard receiver would be the missing piece to elevate Justin Fields and the Chicago offense.

After a rough Week 1 (4.5 PPR points), Moore has turned in three straight solid fantasy outings despite the Bears’ overall struggles. The former Maryland star has topped the 100-yard mark in two of his last three games and is coming off his best performance of the season (27.1 PPR points) against the Denver Broncos.

Moore is currently the WR14 in PPR formats and outperforming his ADP. However, for Moore’s fantasy managers, that doesn’t mean now is the best time to sell high on him.

Moore is Chicago’s clear-cut WR1; he doesn’t have much competition for targets, if any. Even in games where the Bears’ offense struggles, Moore should still see a minimum of six to eight targets. That alone is more than enough volume to be productive. And, with Chicago likely to be trailing in more games than not, the game script should favor him on a weekly basis.

Yes, there are concerns about the Bears’ passing attack. But unless Moore is part of a trade package where you can significantly upgrade at wide receiver, it’s not worth it for fantasy managers to move him at this point.

What Should Fantasy Managers Look To Acquire When Trading Moore?

In order for fantasy managers to trade Moore, part of the return must consist of one of two things: an upgrade at wide receiver or an elite running back.

The reality is that managers looking to acquire Moore are unlikely to swap an RB1 or WR1 for him one-for-one. So, moving Moore to upgrade at either position will likely need to be part of a bigger package. An example could be Moore and another solid wideout like Marquise Brown or Terry McLaurin, for a WR1 in return like A.J. Brown, Davante Adams, or CeeDee Lamb.

Even so, it’s hard to imagine any fantasy manager giving up on a WR1 or RB1 for Moore and a secondary piece at this time. For now, it’s best for Moore’s managers to hold onto him and hope he can continue to produce at his current pace. He may become an even more attractive trade piece over the next couple of weeks, with the potential to net a lot more value than he currently can.
