Cornerback D.J. James is considered to be a top-100 prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft.
After spending the first three years of his college football career at Oregon, James played the last two seasons at Auburn.
Before he gets started on his NFL career, let’s take a deeper dive into James’ football journey.
How Tall Is D.J. James?
James is measured at 5’11 5/8″, which is slightly above average for the cornerback position as it falls in the 55th percentile for height.
James’ wingspan, however, is only 72 3/8″, which is in just the eighth percentile for the position.
How Much Does James Weigh?
James weighed in at 175 pounds at the NFL Combine.
While his weight only sits in the second percentile, James more than makes up for it in athleticism. James had a 4.42-second 40-yard dash and a 1.5-second 10-yard split.
How Old Is James?
James was born on March 5, 2001, making him 23 years old.
This makes James an older prospect and certainly makes his 175-pound frame even more concerning, as there is less reason to believe at his age that he can add more weight than a younger player in the draft could.
James, however, is one of many older prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, as the 2020 COVID-19 season gave players an extra year of eligibility in college.
What School Did James Go To?
James was a three-star recruit coming out of Spanish Fort High School in Alabama. He had 10 offers coming out of high school and chose to commit to Oregon.

Revisiting James’ College Career
Oregon
James played seven games at Oregon in his freshman season, recording 10 tackles and a pass deflection.
Though 2020 was marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, James played in six games, making 16 tackles and adding another pass deflection.
James’ final season with the Ducks was his best, as he made 46 tackles with two interceptions and four pass deflections.
Auburn
In his first year at Auburn in 2022, James had 37 tackles, one interception, and eight pass deflections. He followed that up with 38 tackles, two interceptions, and 10 pass breakups in his redshirt senior season in 2023.
James was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2022.
James’ Potential in the NFL
James may not be the heaviest or tallest cornerback, but Pro Football Network draft analyst Ian Cummings likes the Auburn product’s ability to make things happen with his athletic ability.

“As an athlete, he has a near-elite mix of explosiveness, short-area twitch, fluidity, and speed,” Cummings wrote. “And as a CB, he’s an adept processor with an instant trigger, reliable disruptive tendencies both before and at the catch, and a full bag of technique implements based on WR leverage.
“Zone coverage is where James can gain more consistency, as knowing when to pass off and carry WRs is still an issue at times. But in coverage, he’s a dynamic and versatile defender.
“And in support, he’s surprisingly and refreshingly competitive despite his frame. He attacks blocks, fights to earn leverage, and obstructs boundary plays with voracity.”
