The Carolina Panthers were in desperate need of a leading receiver to emerge as a go-to option for rookie QB Bryce Young in 2023.
Unfortunately for DJ Chark Jr.’s shareholders, 33-year-old Adam Thielen quickly emerged as the top pass catcher in Carolina. After a disappointing year with the Panthers, what is Chark’s dynasty fantasy football value heading into his seventh NFL season?
DJ Chark Jr.’s Dynasty Outlook
Chark’s WR17 finish in PPR formats in his second year as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars feels like it happened a decade ago.
After recording 73 receptions and his first 1,000-yard season back in 2019, Chark has failed to top 55 receptions or 750 yards receiving in any of his last four years.
Chark joined the productive Detroit Lions offense for the 2022 season, but he failed to establish himself as a reliable and productive option alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown with just 30 receptions over his 11 games in the Motor City.

Despite the underwhelming year with the Lions, optimism around Chark started to grow ahead of the 2023 season when he signed with the receiver-needy Panthers who traded away top WR DJ Moore in a deal that helped them draft their franchise quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Unfortunately, Chark caught just 35 passes over his 15 games played in 2023, which brings into question why he was unable to emerge as the team’s top pass-catching option with just an aging Thielen and rookie Jonathan Mingo to compete with for targets in Carolina.
His track record of underwhelming production has become pretty concerning regarding his dynasty outlook moving into the 2024 offseason, where he is set to become a free agent for a third straight year.

Should You Trade Chark in Dynasty?
Are you considering trading Chark? Our free PFN Trade Analyzer allows you to find the best trade offer to make in seconds!
How would you attempt to give a sales pitch to an interested dynasty manager regarding Chark at this very moment?
Sure, the first thing you will point out is his breakout season in 2019. Perhaps you can attempt to explain away his other down years in Jacksonville with injuries and poor quarterback play.
However, I’m not sure how you can fool other managers when trying to explain away his previous two disappointing campaigns.
Detroit needed a deep threat just like Chark in 2022, and he failed to separate himself from Josh Reynolds and was outproduced by Kalif Raymond.
Then, during the 2023 season with the Panthers, he got outplayed by a past-his-prime Thielen and was out-targeted by the rookie Mingo.
Chark does still have vertical-threat speed and playmaking ability, but he is quickly running out of chances to prove he can be a productive fantasy asset before his career comes to an end.

I would be willing to part ways with Chark for a rookie third-round pick and have no issue trading Chark away for younger prospects like A.T. Perry or Andrei Iosivas at this point.
He still has some fantasy value if he falls into a great landing spot, but I’m no longer confident he will maximize his fantasy potential even if he lands in a favorable situation in 2024.
