It’s not common for a football team to have a father-son representation on the roster. In the case of the Jacksonville Jaguars, though, Doug Pederson got a chance to have this rare distinction: Coaching his son in the NFL.
Josh Pederson arrived as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana-Monroe. But did Josh Pederson last?
From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!
Fate of Doug Pederson’s Son Was Made Before 2023 Season
Unfortunately for the younger Pederson, he didn’t make the final 53-man roster.
Pederson, a tight end, was among the final roster day decisions back on August 29. The son of the Super Bowl-winning head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles also had a background in long snapping.
At the time, fans and analysts around the Jags believed Pederson would have a roster spot off snapping the ball on fourth downs. The Jaguars’ other long snapper was Ross Matsick since Pederson was there.
But even his versatility as a special teamer didn’t guarantee a roster spot. And for Josh Pederson, the Jags became the fourth NFL team he was briefly with.
The former ULM Warhawk bounced between the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, and New Orleans Saints. He also played in the USFL for the Houston Gamblers.
Despite playing for four different NFL franchises, Pederson is yet to catch his first NFL pass during the regular season while also starting in his first game.
Where Is Josh Pederson Now?
All is well inside the Pederson household.
Right after his roster decision and clearing waivers, the Jaguars were able to keep him after all by signing him to the practice squad.
