Darrelle Revis was unquestionably one of the top defensive backs of his era. The longtime Jets CB locked down the opposition’s top offensive weapon weekly, where offensive coordinators would avoid throwing the ball in his direction. Rarely do we see defensive backs have this type of impact at the NFL level. Revis’ impact was Deion Sanders-esque.
NFL fans and players alike recognized Revis’ ability to erase the top offensive weapons in the game, giving him the nickname “Revis Island.” Once you arrive on Revis Island, there is no escape. The statement sounds ominous, but it is true, given Revis’ lockdown capabilities.
The former top defensive back received several honors throughout his illustrious NFL career, including seven Pro Bowl nods and four first-team All-Pro bids. In 2023, Revis received the highest honor a former player can receive as he was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Did Darrelle Revis Win a Super Bowl?
As one of the top defensive players of his era and a legendary Hall of Famer, Revis must have achieved the ultimate team goal of winning a Super Bowl during his career, right?
Entering the 2007 NFL Draft, the Jets wanted a difference-maker in their defense. The Jets scouted the defensive side of the ball diligently throughout the draft process and landed on one player they fell in love with: Pittsburgh Panthers CB Darrelle Revis.

New York held the 25th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft and knew there was no way a talent like Revis would fall to their selection. Many draft pundits stacked Revis with Michigan’s Leon Hall and Texas’ Aaron Ross as the top cornerback prospects in the 2007 class. Top-tier CBs don’t last to the later part of the first round, so the Jets knew they had to be aggressive.
The Jets found a trade partner in the Carolina Panthers, who owned the 14th overall selection. New York dealt their first-round pick, 25th overall, their second-round selection, and their fifth-round selection to Carolina to move up and select their difference-maker in Revis.
The dynamic CB became an instant sensation in the Big Apple, shadowing the opposition’s top receiver immediately. Revis received acknowledgment from players around the league as one of the best defenders in the game.
Although Revis became a dominant figure during his Jets’ tenure, the New York superstar couldn’t find the one thing that alluded his grasp — a Super Bowl title. Revis began “ring chasing” as he bounced from the Jets organization for a one-year stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which didn’t work out, before playing for the Jets’ AFC East rivals, the New England Patriots.
Revis Island hopped aboard the Tom Brady bandwagon and made it to Super Bowl XLIX. New England faced the Seattle Seahawks in Revis’ only appearance in a Super Bowl. Due to an untimely Russell Wilson interception late in the fourth quarter, Revis, Brady, and the Patriots were Super Bowl champions.
