Who Is DeWayne Carter? Height, Weight, Age, and More

    Published on

Get to know DeWayne Carter, one of the top-rated defensive line prospects and projected top 100 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

DeWayne Carter is a top defensive line prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft. After a successful college career with the Duke Blue Devils, Carter declared for the NFL Draft and is expected to be one of the top players selected at his position.

    How Tall Is DeWayne Carter?

At the NFL Scouting Combine in March, Carter measured at 6’2 3/8″. From a height perspective, he’s slightly undersized for a defensive tackle, coming in at the 34th percentile.

But while it’s not the prototypical height for his position, Carter is not short enough for this to be a major red flag by any means.

    How Much Does Carter Weigh?

Carter weighed in at 302 pounds at the Combine, which puts him in the 41st percentile at his position.

At his size, Carter doesn’t meet the desired measurables for the DT position, but it shouldn’t be a major weakness for him in the NFL, especially since he makes up for it with his athleticism.

Carter’s 40-yard dash (4.99 seconds), vertical jump (80 inches), and broad jump (109 inches), for example, all rank in the 71st percentile or better for defensive tackles.

    How Old Is Carter?

Born on Dec. 10, 2003, Carter is 23 years old, making him a little bit of an older prospect. However, he won’t turn 24 until the last few weeks of his rookie campaign.

What School Did Carter Go To?

Carter was named the All-Metro Team Defensive Player of the Year during his senior year at Pickerington High School Central, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio.

A three-star recruit, Carter had offers from major programs, including Michigan and Notre Dame, but he ultimately committed to Duke to continue his football career and major in psychology.

    Revisiting Carter’s College Career

Carter was a disruptive force during his time with the Blue Devils, both on and off the field.

He was Duke’s first-ever three-year captain. For every sack or tackle for loss on his impressive stat sheet, there’s an organization or foundation that benefits from Carter’s generosity.

“It’s pretty cool and rewarding to know that I’m making an impact,” Carter said of his charity work in an interview with College Football Network.

As a true freshman, Carter recorded just one tackle in Duke’s loss against Alabama. In 2020, despite the pandemic, he played in 11 games, recording 11 tackles, with 2.5 being tackles for loss. He also had his first career sack.

In 2021, Carter had 36 total tackles, 7.5 being TFLs, and 4.5 sacks. He was truly starting to break out as a collegiate player.

As a junior in 2022, Carter played in 13 games and made 36 total tackles, 11 of which were for a loss, and 5.5 sacks.

He returned to the Blue Devils for his fifth-year season in 2023, playing 13 games and recording 41 tackles. However, only 3.5 were TFls, and he had just one sack this past season.

While the glamorous stats might’ve taken a small dip, Carter was recognized for his disruptive efforts anyway, earning 2023 first-team All-ACC honors.

    Carter’s Potential in the NFL

Carter is one of those NFL Draft prospects who will almost certainly find success both on and off the field.

Pro Football Network draft analyst Ian Cummings explains that Carter fits the mold of what every NFL organization looks for in a prospect.

“Whatever boxes there are to check, Carter checks them and then some,” Cummings wrote.

Carter is a top-100 ranked prospect, according to Cummings, and will likely be drafted on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

“Particularly as a pass rusher, Carter makes his money with his power,” says Cummings. “He can leverage his frame density, proportional length, and mass into awesome point-of-contact force with his explosiveness, and he also has the torque and rotational freedom to sequence moves from that power.

“Carter’s power is his top selling point, and he can unleash that power from different alignments and encumber multiple blockers with his gravity as a rushing threat. But his appeal extends to the run game too, where he can stack and shed as well as invade gapes with his fiery burst and pursuit motor.”
