DeVonta Smith Injury Update: Latest News Surrounding the Eagles’ WR in Week 3

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith went down with a scary injury Week 3. Here is everything we know so far.

Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver DeVonta Smith absorbed a brutal hit against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Smith was stood up following a reception before being hit by Khristian Boyd.

Smith lost his helmet following the contact and laid on the field following the brutal hit. Eagles players and coaches kneeled around Smith after witnessing the powerful blow.

Smith eventually stood up and walked off the field under his own power.

    DeVonta Smith Injury Update

The Eagles officially ruled out DeVonta Smith due to a concussion following a hit suffered in the second half. With A.J. Brown missing his second consecutive game, Smith was Philadelphia’s top wide receiver in Week 3.

Smith was well on his way to another impressive performance for the Eagles in New Orleans. Serving as Philadelphia’s top wide receiver, Smith hauled in seven receptions for 79 yards against one of the top defenses in the NFL.

Now the Eagles are without their top two wide receivers with the much-needed bye week quickly approaching in Week 5. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert stepped up against the Saints with Philadelphia missing both Smith and Brown.

Goedert hauled in 10 receptions for 170 yards as Philadelphia quickly ran out of targets in the passing game. Philadelphia’s offense lost several starters against the Saints, including Smith and two starters along the offensive line.

    DeVonta Smith Fantasy Analysis

The Eagles can’t catch a break at the receiver position. With Brown sidelined for a second consecutive week (after missing zero games in his first two seasons as an Eagle), Smith was featured as much as ever in his young career.

Unfortunately, he went down with an injury, and this thin pass-catching core is in major trouble. Philadelphia does have its bye in Week 5, potentially buying the Eagles some time.

Offseason acquisition Jahan Dotson is a short-term add, but not with much in the way of expectations.

What this injury does is ensure that Dallas Goedert is a fantasy football starter. His involvement was limited prior to Week 3, but Goedert is a veteran presence who has the confidence of Jalen Hurts.

He’s not going to win you many weeks, but Goedert should be able to stabilize your TE spot, which puts you in position to gain on your leaguemates.
