De’Von Achane Fantasy Value: Should You Sell High on Dolphins RB?

Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane has been a fantasy football cheat code in consecutive weeks. Is now the time to cash in this trade chip?

Fantasy football managers are always looking for the next big thing. Oftentimes, we act too quickly as we chase past production without truly taking into account what the future holds. Miami Dolphins RB De’Von Achane certainly looks like the real deal, but should you be entertaining the idea of moving on from the explosive rookie?

What Should Fantasy Managers Do With De’Von Achane?

Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy it happened.

Is that a corny cliche? It is, but unless you think Achane is LaDainian Tomlinson 2.0, his value has reached its peak in redraft fantasy football leagues.

I know, I know, I don’t like being the wet blanket, but this is a cutthroat game that often rewards you handsomely for acting aggressively. Achane scored early in Week 4 after putting on a clinic in Week 3, but the overall concerns that I had entering this week have not changed.

Yes, he scored on his first two carries. Great. It should be noted that Tua Tagovailoa dropped back to pass on eight of Miami’s first nine plays from scrimmage. No matter how gaudy the production has been lately for the ‘Fins on the ground, this is still a pass-first offense.

Raheem Mostert has done nothing to lose his role atop this depth chart, and Jeff Wilson Jr. can be activated off of injured reserve (IR) next week. You’re either betting on Achane being an outlier of a talent, or you’re betting on a committee in a pass-first offense eventually lowering the ceiling of all involved.

What Can You Get for Achane?

At this moment in time, you’re approaching “name your price” territory. If I’m off to a hot start, I’m not against playing the long game and moving Achane for a star RB who is currently injured (Saquon Barkley or Austin Ekeler).

If you want a running back on an explosive AFC East offense, I prefer James Cook moving forward. Could you pick up Tee Higgins in a sell-high, buy-low sort of deal? It’s certainly possible. I’d ask for the moon and settle for the stars if you’re looking to cash in Achane.

Full disclosure: If you think Achane is truly special, don’t move him. The names I mentioned above are good options, but maybe you’re in a league that isn’t as reactionary as others. If that’s the case and you believe in the talent, don’t make a move.

It’s important that you remember that you are in a position of power and leverage here. Use that advantage as best you can. These types of decisions are what decide your fantasy fate!
