When Miami Dolphins RB De’Von Achane is healthy, his fantasy football managers have profited in a major way. It really has been that simple. He was heavily featured late in a blowout last week and that resulted in a nice final line — should he be locked into lineups in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans?
Should You Start De’Von Achane in Week 14?
The explosive rookie looked healthy after missing five of six games (knee), and while the touch count pops (20), don’t overreact and think that he is the unquestioned leader in this backfield. Much of that came in garbage time, as Miami melted the clock in their 30-point win over Washington.
That said, Achane has four games this season with at least 10 touches, and, per the Week 14 Cheat Sheet, in all four of them, he has produced top-five fantasy numbers at the position. I’m not sure that’s going to sustain, but a healthy version of Achane is deserving of your trust.
His first carry last week didn’t come until the third drive, and until this team features him early, I’m going to have him ranked slightly behind Raheem Mostert. That said, it doesn’t matter — you’re starting both with confidence until otherwise noted.
Trending Start/Sit Searches for Achane
Did you know that we have a Start/Sit Optimizer here at Pro Football Network?! It’s completely free to use and it allows you to enter up to six players to find the best option to plug into your starting lineup!
It also allows us to see the most popular trending searches, and we’ve jotted some of them down here to help provide some clarity!
Should You Start Achane or Joe Mixon?
Maybe I’m crazy here, but I have Joe Mixon one spot higher. Achane played behind Mostert last week, something that isn’t clear if you just look at the box score given that the rookie racked up work in the second half of a blowout win.
With Mixon, he’s essentially a guarantee to handle 14-18 touches. For me, that’s comforting over a player like Achane who is facing a Titans defense that is more vulnerable through the air than on the ground. I’d be happy to start either, but if it’s two guys for one spot in a close matchup, I’m siding with Mixon.
Should You Start Achane or Zack Moss?
As much as I’m buying what Achane is selling from a skills point of view, the math part of me can’t get away from the volume opportunity in a great matchup that Zack Moss figures to hold this week.
When Jonathan Taylor is out — as is the case this week — Moss’ role is as friendly as any in the NFL. We are talking about a Christian McCaffrey level of workload, which was over 80% of the RB scrimmage yards last week and every single one of their backfield carries.
The edge Moss holds in a projectable floor, in my opinion, is more valuable than Achane’s edge in per-carry upside, so give me Moss in a perfect bounce-back spot, and I’m loading up on him in DFS situations as well!
