Devin Singletary Start/Sit Week 3: Will the Bills’ lead RB continue to produce?

Should you start Buffalo Bills running back Devin Singletary against the Washington Football Team in Week 3 fantasy football lineups?

Bills running back Devin Singletary has been effective through the first two weeks of the season. But has Singletary earned a spot in fantasy football lineups for Week 3?

Devin Singletary Fantasy: Don’t go point chasing!

Odds are you drafted Singletary as your RB4 or RB5 and haven’t had much need to use him. Yet, you probably grew frustrated watching him outscore your RB1 or RB2 from the bench. But don’t chase last week’s points!

Devin Singletary’s performance is a mirage

In Week 1, Singletary played 75% of the offensive snaps with Zack Moss inactive. He turned that into a solid, yet unspectacular, 11 fantasy points.

In Week 2, while sharing the backfield with Moss, Singletary rushed 13 times for 82 yards and a touchdown, adding 2 receptions for 9 yards. While those numbers may look good, it’s important to apply some context.

Singletary ripped off a 46-yard touchdown in Buffalo’s second offensive play from scrimmage. That means after Singletary’s first carry, he totaled just 36 yards on 12 attempts.

Josh Allen and Zack Moss are ahead of Devin Singletary in goal-line priority

The only way Singletary is likely to score a touchdown is on a splash play, much like he did last week. When the Bills get inside the 10-yard line, Josh Allen usually takes things into his own hands. If Buffalo does run the ball with a non-Allen option, Moss is the goal-line back, as evidenced by the 7-yard and 1-yard touchdown plunges he had in the Bills’ 35-0 shutout of the Dolphins.

Should you start Devin Singletary in Week 3 fantasy lineups?

This week, I am fading Singletary and would not recommend inserting him into your fantasy lineups if you have a reasonable alternative.

The Football Team has a stout run defense

In 2020, the Washington Football Team allowed the third-fewest fantasy points per game to running backs. Through two games this season, they’ve allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points per game to running backs. Simply put, this is a bad matchup for Singletary.

Josh Allen is poised for a breakout game

Through the first two weeks, Allen has been a middling QB2 — a far cry from the MVP candidate we saw last season. That’s all going to change this week. Allen is due for a smash performance.

While the Football Team is strong against the run, they are mediocre — at best — against the pass. They just allowed an overall QB4 game to Daniel Jones, who scored 29.46 fantasy points. Washington had no answer for Sterling Shepard, who caught 9 of 10 targets for 94 yards.

Expect a pass-heavy game plan that doesn’t feature Devin Singletary

The Bills are not the type of team to “establish the run.” They are going to do what works against the opposing defense. The way to beat Washington is through the air. Look for Buffalo to lean on the pass and put to bed any concerns over Allen regressing.

While Singletary is undoubtedly the passing down back ahead of Matt Breida (who played just 2 snaps last week), he has just 17 receiving yards on 5 receptions thus far. Allen is not one to check it down, instead opting to push the ball down the field or take off running himself.

I would be surprised if Singletary was able to reach double-digit fantasy points this week. Unless you are really in a bind, you can likely do better than Singletary in your flex position.
