Should You Start Devin Singletary, Mike Boone, or Dare Ogunbowale for Fantasy Football in Week 9?

Which one of the three Houston Texans running backs should be in your fantasy lineup in Week 9 of the NFL season?

The Houston Texans have been a pleasant surprise start to the season under first-year coach DeMeco Ryans. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has been fantastic in his first year as the starter, and the team is sitting at 3-4. However, if there has been one area where fantasy football managers have been frustrated, it’s the struggles in the rushing attack.

Dameon Pierce had a strong rookie season with 939 yards, but he has struggled this year. Now, he is out with an injury – leaving a few players who could be in contention for some carries.

Should You Start Devin Singletary, Mike Boone, or Dare Ogunbowale for Fantasy Football in Week 9?

In the Pro Football Network Start/Sit Optimizer, PFN’s Consensus Rankings say managers should start Devin Singletary. He is projected to have 9.1 fantasy points on 35.4 rushing yards and 2.3 receptions.

Mike Boone is projected to have 2.8 fantasy points on 8.4 rushing yards and one reception. Finally, Dare Ogunbowale is projected to have 2.8 fantasy points on 2.8 rushing yards and 0.7 receptions.

I agree with the Start/Sit Optimizer. Singletary is the running back that should be in your lineup in Week 9.

    Devin Singletary’s Fantasy Outlook

Over the past two weeks, the Texans have used Pierce and Singletary nearly the same amount. Pierce has gotten 25 carries, while Singletary has rushed the ball 23 times. While neither of them has been very successful, Singletary has out-gained Pierce 88-80.

The fact the Texans don’t lose any of their productivity is a positive thing. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the better teams stopping the run, as they are ranked 10th (98.6 yards). One area where Singletary could have some success is in the passing game, as the Buccaneers are ranked 28th against the pass (256.0 yards).

In the final three seasons for the Buffalo Bills, he had 38, 40, and 38 catches. While he only has seven this season, this week could be a great opportunity to get involved in catching the ball.

    Mike Boone’s Fantasy Outlook

Last week, Boone was involved in the kick return game, but that shouldn’t be the case as he is now RB2 for the Texans. He has only three carries on the season, but did have three catches for 18 yards in Week 1 against Baltimore.

While I don’t think it will be 50/50 on carries between Singletary and Boone, he figures to be more involved on Sunday than any different point this season. There isn’t a scenario for Boone to be in a fantasy lineup, as there isn’t enough volume for him to be starting for you.

    Dare Ogunbowale’s Fantasy Outlook

Ogunbowale has only two carries for the Texans this year and doesn’t figure to get many more on Sunday. If he is getting carries, then there is probably more injury issues for the Texans.

Right now, it is hard seeing him being involved that much in the offense. Singletary is going to get the majority of the carries, and Boone is the second running back. There is no scenario right now where Ogunbowale should even be on your fantasy roster, let alone in your lineup.
