3-Time Super Bowl Champion Reveals Surprise Destination for Aaron Rodgers as Rumors of Jets Breakup Intensify

    Published on

With Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets headed for a breakup, a three-time Super Bowl champion has theories about where the QB could end up?

The Aaron Rodgers drama train is set to find a new destination. Rodgers came to the New York Jets amid much fanfare and lofty promises. However, in the two years since, the franchise has been in a tailspin, essentially remaining at the same level with an expanding salary cap.

But after a full year of Rodgers handling QB duties, it looks like the two parties are headed for a divorce. With his retirement unlikely, speculation about Rodgers’ next team has already begun, with the four-time league MVP adding further fuel to the fire. Now, former NFL defensive back Devin McCourty has theories about what the next team for Rodgers could be.

Devin McCourty Tries To Predict Next Team for Aaron Rodgers

McCourty sees that current Rodgers isn’t the same player that he was and that he is headed for a breakup with the Jets. Speaking on the “Up & Adams Show” hosted by Kay Adams, McCourty made his stance clear about whether Week 18 against the Miami Dolphins was his final game for New York.

“As a Jet, I think so,” he said.

However, McCourty does believe there is a chance the 40-year-old continues his career.

“Will it be his last game playing football? I think, ultimately, that’s up to him. I think there are some teams that I don’t think it’s going to play out for them to be at the top of the draft to get one of these quarterbacks.

“And they might want to have a quarterback, like Tennessee possibly. Maybe he wants to go down, spend a year in Nashville, enjoy, go play there. I think ultimately that will be up to him.”

Rodgers himself has dropped ample hints about the Tennessee Titans being his next destination, including during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

However, McCourty still doubts if Rodgers can be a great quarterback in the NFL, especially given how the 2024 season has gone for him.

“His play doesn’t suggest that he’ll be, like, better next year. But, ultimately, he’s Aaron Rodgers. If you have a shot to bring him in and see what he can do, I think there’s teams that do it.”

    Adams, meanwhile, wasn’t fully onboard.

Rodgers’ on-field production was far beyond his usual numbers. According to PFN’s QB+ metric, Rodgers has been the 25th-best quarterback in the NFL, firmly in the bottom third with a C- grade.

As a result, the Jets’ offense has also received a C- grade on the year, good for 18th in the league and again in the bottom half.

And that’s without mentioning the off-field drama. Throughout the year, the discourse around Rodgers has been a distraction, beginning from missing training camp, which Shannon Sharpe still blasts him about to this day.

Nevertheless, McCourty believes a few teams could take the plunge.

“Tennessee’s one of those teams where you look up, like where do you get your top guy from? Do you go and try get in the top three or four in the draft? Like, where does your quarterback come?

“Or do you say, ‘Hey, we’re going, and we’re doing this again with Will Levis?’ Remember Brian Callahan got there with Will Levis already being there. There’s not a shoo-in that he wants to do that. I think Sam Darnold goes back to Minnesota. So you’re looking at Jameis Winston [or Aaron Rodgers]…”

Adams and McCourty even discussed a potential move to the Las Vegas Raiders as a resort. Given the drama of bringing DaVante Adams to New York, the entire situation would be hilariously ironic.

The rumors of a breakup are quickly piling up. It remains to be seen if Rodgers returns next year, but if he does, it’s looking more and more likely that it won’t be in a Jets jersey.
