Detroit Lions Betting Lines: Preview, Odds, Spreads, Win Total, and More

    Published on

As you prepare to make your bets for the 2023 NFL season, here is a Detroit Lions betting preview with their future odds, best bets, and more!

The Detroit Lions are one of this season’s preseason darlings, and for good reason. After starting 1-6 last season, they went 8-2 the rest of the way, finishing 9-8. Coming off a very impressive second half of last season, expectations for the Lions are very high in 2023, a rarity for this franchise. They’re ninth in Super Bowl odds and are the betting favorite to win their division for the first time since 1993.

Not only are the Lions getting a ton of offseason hype, but so is head coach Dan Campbell. Campbell is the favorite to win Coach of the Year and is a very popular bet to win the award. Per Max Meyer, Senior Editor at PointsBet, Campbell has attracted 40.5% of the bets and 30.1% of the handle they have received on Coach of the Year.

    Detroit Lions Offense

Detroit’s offense last year was sixth in total yards, sixth in rushing, and 14th in passing. They have arguably upgraded in the backfield, signing former Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery and drafted additional weapons in RB Jahmyr Gibbs and TE Sam LaPorta.

As long as you have WR Amon-Ra St. Brown on the field, Jared Goff is happy.

    Detroit Lions Defense

The Lions’ 2023 optimistic season is going to rise and fall by the improvement of the defense. Dead last or close to dead last in most defensive categories last year, if there is no improvement, it’ll force more shootouts.

On the bright side… Detroit’s defense was a top-10 defense in the second half. It was that bad first half that sunk them.

    One Betting Trend To Know

The Lions are trending up, and the over hit in four of five games in which they were favored a season ago.

Best Bet for the Lions in 2023

Bearman: It’s hard to find anyone outside the +2000 range that you’d love for NFL MVP, but the Lions could be up for a great season and are the betting favorite to win the NFC North.

If they do, a big IF, Jared Goff (+4000), would be in line to steal the NFL MVP award. 40-1 wins have been found with Lamar Jackson in 2019 and Patrick Mahomes in 2018 (before they were household names), so if the Lions don’t do Lions stuff and actually perform to their capability, +4000 would be a nice ticket. It’s called a long shot for a reason.
