Derrick Henry Trade Rumors: NFL Insider Reveals Titans RB Trade Unlikely To Happen

After Titans running back Derrick Henry's contract was not restructured Monday, sources say he's unlikely to be traded ahead of Tuesday's deadline.

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has been at the forefront of trade rumors recently.

With Henry set to hit NFL free agency in March, it was believed that the Titans were preparing to move him at the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, but recent information reveals that he is likely to stay put.

Derrick Henry Unlikely To Be Traded

On Monday, the deadline for Henry to restructure his contract passed, and he will become a free agent at the end of the 2023 season.

Although the trade deadline is not until 4 p.m. Tuesday, Henry now has a $5.5 million base salary remaining for the rest of the season, which any interested team would have to pick up.

With the large price tag on Henry, Adam Schefter cited a source that said, “I don’t think it’s going to happen,” regarding a Henry trade.

Additionally, it was reported Saturday that the Titans informed Henry that they don’t intend to trade him. After the Titans’ 28-23 win against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in Week 8, Henry spoke on the trade rumors, saying he is happy with the Titans.

“I’ve talked to [Titans GM Ran Carthon]. We’ve had talks, and I feel like everything’s going in a positive direction,” Henry said.

“I understand my position. The life span of it is not too long. I’m getting older. I ain’t getting no younger. But, at the end of the day, I know it’s a business, and I understand that … I’m a Titan, and I’m happy to be a Titan. … I am going to do everything I can to help this organization continue to win.”

Henry was drafted by the Titans in 2016 and has been with the team ever since. The three-time Pro Bowler has put up 526 yards on 120 carries this season, averaging 4.4 yards per carry and adding three touchdowns. In the 2022 season, Henry ran for 1,538 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Baltimore Ravens had been tied to Henry as one of the teams most interested in the running back, and rumors also had it that the Dallas Cowboys could be interested in Henry.

The Ravens supposedly had a deal in place to acquire Henry, but the deal was vetoed by Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk. The 5-2 Ravens seemed to be the most likely fit for the running back, as he could help elevate the already efficient offense.

While a Henry trade is not ruled impossible, it now seems highly unlikely that a trade will be made before Tuesday.
