Ravens Star Derrick Henry Clowns Robert Griffin III, Calls For Lamar Jackson To Win 3rd NFL MVP Award

Derrick Henry and NFL analyst Robert Griffin III got into it on X, and the Ravens RB used the opportunity to advocate for Lamar Jackson to win MVP.

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry had a few things to say after the Ravens defeated the Cleveland Browns 35-10 on Saturday.

Former NFL quarterback and ESPN commentator Robert Griffin III thought that people were using Henry to discredit Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. The superstar running back saw this post and responded to RGIII on Saturday night.

Derrick Henry Calls Out Robert Griffin III

Griffin made a long post on X (formerly Twitter) about how the media was perceiving Jackson and using Henry to discredit the quarterback’s success.

“STOP USING DEREK HENRY TO DISCREDIT LAMAR JACKSON,” Griffin said, misspelling Henry’s first name. “Henry got hit in the backfield on 50 % of his runs last year. This year it’s down to 39%. He has more than doubled his yards before contact and ITS BECAUSE OF LAMAR JACKSON’s INFLUENCE. Watch the dang tape and you will see how often linebackers, safeties and defensive lineman are out of their gap and often chasing Lamar on under center runs, shot gun runs AND zone read looks.

“THIS HAS BEEN THE EASIEST 1,921 YARDS DEREK HENRY HAS EVER RUN FOR IN HIS CAREER. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are the match made in Heaven I predicted they would be in the offseason. They complement each other and are great teammates. Lamar has the 2nd highest passer rating in NFL HISTORY with 41 Passing TDS and won the AFC North. He should be the NFL MVP.”

Henry saw the post and called out Griffin for his statement (and for misspelling his name, which Griffin edited). Henry made it clear that there is no animosity between the Ravens’ stars.

“First of all bruh spell my name right lol (Derrick Henry) & WE SCREAMING MV3 OVER THIS WAY!” Henry posted in response.

Jackson all but locked up the NFL MVP trophy on Saturday, throwing for 217 yards and two touchdowns.

Jackson finished the season with career-highs in passing yards (4,172) and rushing yards (915) while throwing for 41 touchdowns and rushing for four scores on the ground. He became the first player in NFL history to throw for more than 4,000 yards and rush for more than 800 yards in a single season.

Jackson is the No. 1 quarterback in the league in PFN’s QB+ metric, with a grade of 99.8 (A+). PFN’s QB+ metric assigns a letter grade to every quarterback performance and factors in a number of stats such as success rate when pressured, third-down conversion rate, pocket production, and clutch performance.

Griffin tried to clarify his statement to Henry, who seemed annoyed that Griffin was stirring the pot.

“fixed it my Heisman brother. It should be MV3 everywhere. Tired of the lames on national tv trying to pin yal against each other,” Griffin said.

“For anyone struggling with reading comprehension, THIS IS NOT A SLIGHT AT EITHER DERRICK HENRY OR LAMAR JACKSON. They are both Hall of Famers and balled out this year,” Griffin added. “This is a fact check for those trying to use either’s greatness against the other. Stay off the haterade.”

Henry did not seem to accept RGIII’s apology.

    In a now-deleted post, he said: “Off ** 🤦🏾‍♂️😭😭”

Meanwhile, Griffin continued to crash out on X and apologize for his mistake.

“*DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK *DERRICK,” he posted.

No matter how he intended it, RGIII’s comments came off as a bit messy and a diss against Henry and his contributions to the Ravens this year. This season, Henry has done nothing but praise his QB and advocate for Jackson to win his third MVP award.

Griffin all but tried to diminish Henry’s contributions, so the running back rightfully called him out on it.
