Latest Derek Carr Injury Update
Carr absorbed a blow from Conner on 4th-and-8 against the Chiefs as he lofted a deep pass to Saints wide receiver Mason Tipton. While the pass ultimately fell through Tipton’s hands, it was an impressive effort from New Orleans’ starting QB.
Following the failed fourth-down conversion, Carr exited the field and entered the blue medical tent on the Saints’ sideline. Once he was observed by the team’s medical staff on the sideline, Carr exited the tent and headed directly to the Saints’ locker room.

He was officially listed as questionable to return with an oblique injury while Jake Haener finished the game for the Saints in Kansas City.
Carr never returned to the game, and during his postgame press conference, he had ominous words, saying, “Not good, but we’ll get an MRI and that stuff tomorrow.” Carr finished the game 18 of 28 for 165 yards, two touchdowns, and an early interception
Haener went just 2 of 7 for 17 yards in limited action against the reigning Super Bowl Champions and added two rushes for 11 yards.
Fantasy Impact of Carr’s Injury
Carr started the 2024 season with a bang, and while he has struggled after the 2-0 start, the fact that he has thrown multiple touchdown passes in eight of his past 10 games has made him a viable option.
Haener is the QB2 in New Orleans, a 2023 fourth-round pick with 53 touchdown passes against 12 interceptions over his final two collegiate seasons. While his résumé is impressive, the value of a player like Rashid Shaheed, who relies on timing, takes a hit.

Chris Olave is the WR1 in this offense, and we’ve seen backups focus on their alpha receiver at times, keeping him locked into lineups, even if expectations are suppressed a bit.
Alvin Kamara’s ceiling takes a hit, but like Olave, his high-volume role is simply too promising to be benched.
