Broncos 2024 Free Agents: Russell Wilson Decision Will Dominate Denver Offseason

    Published on

Russell Wilson is the first item on the Broncos' offseason agenda. But how will Sean Payton address Denver's group of pending free agents?

The Denver Broncos might look a lot different in 2024. Sure, Sean Payton mostly stayed quiet ahead of this year’s trade deadline, while two straight wins have put the Broncos on the fringes of the AFC playoff conversation.

But Payton could remake Denver’s roster next season. Russell Wilson will likely be a post-June 1 cut. Receivers like Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton, long rumored to be on the trade market, might finally be moved.

What about the Broncos’ internal free agents? Denver doesn’t have the most impressive 2024 class of FAs, but the club may be interested in re-signing a few incumbent options.

Who Are the Denver Broncos’ Upcoming Free Agents?

    C Lloyd Cushenberry

Payton tried to overhaul the Broncos’ offensive line this offseason by signing right tackle Mike McGlinchey and left guard Ben Powers. Denver’s front five was better in 2023, but holdovers Garett Bolles, Quinn Meinerz, and Lloyd Cushenberry were the highlights.

Above-average offensive lines were a staple of Payton’s run with the New Orleans Saints, and he may not want to get a young player like Cushenberry — who’s improved in every season — get away. Maintaining continuity heading into 2024 could be essential.

    LB Josey Jewell

Josey Jewell is an underrated player on the second level of Denver’s defense, and it was a little surprising that the Broncos couldn’t find a take for the 28-year-old linebacker at the trade deadline. The former fourth-round pick is coming off a two-year, $11 million extension with Denver — will the club re-up him again in 2024?

Probably not. The Broncos used a second-round pick on Arkansas LB Drew Sanders in this year’s draft and will want to see a return on that investment. Sanders, a 2022 All-American, only played significant snaps when a hip injury sidelined Jewell for most of Week 3 and all of Week 4.

    TE Adam Trautman

Payton prioritized acquiring Adam Trautman — whom Payton drafted as the Saints’ head coach — after the fourth-year TE requested a trade out of New Orleans. But Trautman struggled to contribute to Denver’s offense.

Even though fellow TE Greg Dulcich was on injured reserve for most of the year, Trautman has posted just 22 catches for 204 yards.
