Deion Sanders has important advice for several Colorado Buffaloes stars, especially quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman contender Travis Hunter, who will depart for the NFL next year. After missing out on the Big 12 Championship Game, Shedeur and Hunter will likely end their college football careers playing a bowl game.
Several NFL scouts will closely monitor how those games pan out. They’ll especially monitor potential top picks, and Coach Prime wants them to know not to take it easy.
Deion Sanders’ Words of Wisdom for Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Others
If anyone knows what it’s like to be a top pick, it’s $45 million worth Deion Sanders, who himself was drafted fifth overall in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
Recently, Coach Prime arranged a seminar on the completion of a successful 9-3 regular season. While Colorado would have liked to play in the conference championship game for a shot at the College Football Playoff, an upset 37-21 loss against Kansas in Week 13 derailed its chances.
During the seminar, Sanders shared important advice for all potential players looking to depart for the NFL next year.
“And you think you’re going to get drafted, but you half-step it? That does not work. They watch everything,” Coach Prime said. “And guys like Travis and Shedeur, guys that are going to go high in the first round, you will be followed probably from now until the draft. So understand that.
“If I’m a team investing a high pick in you, oh, they’re going to have a tail on you, okay? Trust me, they’re going to know everything you do, everything you know. All your little homies, all your friends, they’re going to interview back where you came from, and they’re going to be on your butts like crazy. They really are.”

In Pro Football Network’s most recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Shedeur Sanders went No. 2 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Shedeur Sanders isn’t a perfect prospect with limited arm talent and polarizing leadership concerns when things haven’t gone well in Colorado, but his flashes of processing, anticipation, and off-script creation all project favorably to competently running an NFL offense.
“Who knows if Antonio Pierce will get a second year as the Las Vegas Raiders head coach, but the safety blanket of star tight end Brock Bowers should give Raider Nation a reason to be optimistic about the future of an offensive unit that hasn’t had much to get excited about in recent years.”
Hunter is another Buffalo who will likely hear his name called early in the draft. He is currently leading the Heisman Trophy race and will probably see his name announced as the winner when the voting results are out on Dec. 14.
In PFN’s mock draft, Hunter actually went to the New England Patriots fourth overall.
“The New England Patriots organization has to be feeling pretty good about what they’ve seen from Drake Maye to start his career. Maye’s 1,696 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, along with an additional 345 yards on the ground while playing with a subpar supporting cast across the board, should be considered a successful start to his career.
“Oddly enough, the Patriots have the opportunity to add a dynamic weapon for Maye on the perimeter while additionally finding another ball-hawking playmaker to pair with Christian Gonzalez in the secondary with Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter.
“Do I see Hunter playing 100+ snaps per game on Sundays? Probably not, but his uncommon ability to excel on both sides of the ball is simply too good to pass up for New England at No. 4 overall.”
