Deion Sanders Shares 1-Word Reaction to Titans Firing GM Ran Carthon After Landing No. 1 Pick in 2025 NFL Draft

Deion Sanders was shocked at the dismissal of Tennessee Titans GM Ran Carthon, with the move now reshuffling the deck as to the top pick of the draft.

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, the father of quarterback Shedeur Sanders — who could potentially be the No. 1 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans — was shocked to see Ran Carthon get fired as their general manager and took to social media to voice his feelings.

Coach Prime Shocked With Titans’ Decision To Fire Ran Carthon

Sanders, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was shocked Tuesday morning when the Titans terminated Carthon, who would have been responsible for the No. 1 pick of the draft.

In addition to Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders has been linked to the Titans as the top selection. Yet, with Carthon departing, there is no indication as to which way Tennessee is leaning. It’s very possible the Titans elect to go with two-way player and this year’s Heisman Trophy winner, Travis Hunter, who was also coached by Coach Prime at Colorado.

The Titans were rumored to be leaning toward Ward with the No. 1 pick, but that could all change now. Yet, the elder Sanders is obviously concerned about the lack of continuity within the organization.

    “Wow!” Sanders said on Monday.

The response does not indicate Sanders’ overall feeling towards the move, but it’s clear he is taken aback by it.

Carthon was elevated to the position just over two years ago and signed an extension last offseason. It’s rare when someone is extended one year and fired the next, so the move to let Carthon go is catching the football world by storm.

“It’s impossible to ignore that our football team hasn’t improved over the past two years,” controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement. “I am deeply disappointed in our poor win-loss record during this period, of course, but my decision also speaks to my concern about our long-term future should we stay the course.”

Meanwhile, it remains a surprise that Carthon took the fall while head coach Brian Callahan has been kept on.

Sanders, Ward, and Hunter are now all in the mix for the No. 1 overall selection. Tennessee could go in either direction; it’s really just a question of how much they want to replace Will Levis at quarterback right now.
