New Year’s for college football began in Atlanta before moving on to California. The first quarterfinal between Arizona State and Texas unfolded in the latter’s 39-31 win in the Peach Bowl. The game was a close one, with two overtimes needed to decide a winner.
Arizona State’s running back, Cameron Skattebo, did everything he could to avert an exit. While his impressive efforts ultimately fell short, what followed the Sun Devil’s defeat was some unexpected backlash against him.
Deion Sanders Jr. Backs Up Cameron Skattebo Over Allegations
Even though the RB ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns, catching eight passes for 99 yards, including a 42-yard score, some felt that he did not give his best. He played while ill and was seen throwing up on the sidelines before the fourth quarter, which led to one individual suggesting on X (a tweet that has now been deleted) that Skattebo’s condition was because he was out partying late on New Year’s Eve.
Responding to the allegation, the running back tweeted:
“Dudes a clown, that was at 8:30 pm and I was with family. Yes they were drinking alcohol, and if you knew anything about me you know I don’t drink. But I’m sure you posted this because you couldn’t get a picture or autograph. Man some people just want the clout and it’s sickening.”
Coach Prime’s oldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., backed him up:
You at the top my brother… they gone do whatever they can to dim your light. Keep going! F**** them people https://t.co/roE3uM9cpY

On “The Dan Patrick Show” Skattebo cited overhydration and a bad breakfast sandwich as the reason for his sickness.
As for the game, it was slipping away from Texas because of a 3-yard touchdown run by Skattebo in the first overtime. The Longhorns responded when Quinn Ewers found Matthew Golden, who got past two defenders and caught the ball for a game-tying score, forcing a second overtime that led to Texas’ win. The Longhorns will now face Ohio State for the Cotton Bowl semifinal.
Skattebo, who was fifth in running for the Heisman and calls himself the best RB in the country, ended his season with 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns on 293 carries.
According to Pro Football Network’s Mock Draft Simulator, Skattebo is projected to be a top-150 pick, specifically at No. 141.
“A powerful runner who breaks tackles and excels in tight lanes, Skattebo has solidified himself as a top prospect for the 2025 Draft, likely earning attention as an early Day 3 pick.”
