Amid Deion Sanders to Cowboys Rumors, Colorado AD Breaks Down Current Situation at Boulder: ‘He’s Just Getting Started’

There are rumors linking Deion Sanders to the Dallas Cowboys, but Colorado AD Rick George stepped in to address the speculation. What's next for Coach Prime?

As head coach Mike McCarthy’s Dallas Cowboys struggle with a 3-6 record, fans and critics are calling for a coaching change. One name that’s being frequently linked to the potential role is Deion Sanders, who has turned the season around for the Colorado Buffaloes, leading them to an 8-2 record.

Deion Sanders Shuts Down Dallas Speculations

The rumors are all over the internet, and there was a dire need for someone close to Sanders to step out and clear the air. So, Colorado Athletic Director Rick George took this responsibility and announced that Prime Time isn’t leaving Boulder anytime soon. George, appearing on the “Zero 2 Sixty Podcast” on Sunday, stated:

“I think there’s a lot of people out there that, you know, wanna say he’s just jumping in Boulder and he’s out of here. Deion’s not going anywhere. The guy is committed here. He’s just getting started, and I feel really good about our relationship and his love of Boulder and our tradition here, and the community’s embraced him.”

While George hasn’t had a detailed conversation with Sanders about his future, they did talk about it during Colorado’s two bye weeks. George is confident that Sanders’ full focus is on the game right now, and he isn’t allowing any distractions to come near him.

“I mean, well, he doesn’t want to have those distractions about talking about a contract during the season, but certainly after the season, we’ll talk about the future. So, let people say what they wanna say. The only two that know the truth are Deion and I, that are having those conversations, and we will keep moving our feet, and we’ll always do what’s best for CU.”

George recalled it being similar to when they were hiring Coach Prime while he was still the head coach of Jackson State. Sanders wanted to finish the season with his team fully focused before landing in Colorado. He spent three seasons as Jackson State’s HC (2020-2022), totaling a 27-6 overall winning record.

It’s the same way today with Sanders focusing his attention on taking Colorado to the College Football Playoff. Once the season ends, both George and Sanders will have a detailed talk about their future.

Meanwhile, on an episode “Speak,” Sanders himself refuted speculations of him joining the Cowboys next season. Sanders’ former teammate, Michael Irvin, asked him about taking the Dallas job, to which Coach Prime simply stated, “I love it where I am.”

If Sanders joins Dallas, it would be a homecoming for the legend who spent five seasons (1995-1999) playing for the franchise as both a wide receiver and cornerback. During that stint with the Cowboys, he helped them win two back-to-back Super Bowls (1995-1996).

Cowboys fans may want to see their legend turn things around for America’s Team, but Sanders has made a special bond with Colorado. The program is doing well under his guidance, indicating he would most likely want to spend a few more years in Boulder before making a big move to the NFL.
