Head coach Deion Sanders and the No. 23-ranked Colorado Buffaloes will compete with the No. 17-ranked BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET. It is expected to be one of the most competitive non-playoff bowl games this year, and Sanders has said that he does not know how he is going to handle seeing his sons play their final college football game.
Deion Sanders Will Coach His Sons for the Last Time in the Alamo Bowl
Although this is an important game for Colorado as it plays in a bowl game for the first time in several years, it is also an emotional game for the Sanders family. Coach Prime has indicated that he will stay with Colorado for the foreseeable future, but that is not the case for his sons.
Both quarterback Shedeur Sanders and safety Shilo Sanders are in their final year of eligibility and are expected to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. Coach Prime spoke about his emotions on Friday at a press conference.

“Yes, don’t forget [Travis Hunter], and don’t forget the multitude of seniors that we have because I love them all for life. But yes, I was trying to shy away from that because I knew the last home game was the last home game, but this is the last game,” Deion said. “This is it. I got upset with Shilo yesterday, and I told him we got 48 hours, son. Forty-eight hours and this is over.”
“So, it’s going to be something to behold. I don’t know how I’m gonna handle it. I know Travis is gonna trigger me and make me tear up. I know it because he always does and he’s going to bring tears out of my eyes. I don’t look forward to it but I do because that means they’re going to another level and another chapter of life and they’re going to soar. I’m thankful as though we’ve equipped them with all the tools they need to be successful.”
Colorado’s quarterback, Shedeur is expected to be a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He is viewed by most as one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft alongside Miami’s Cam Ward. Most mock drafts have him as a top-five pick, with some even having him going first overall.
Colorado safety Shilo is not getting as much attention and will likely go much later in the draft. However, he is still expected to be drafted in the later rounds.
