Deion Sanders’ “Prime Time” effect has always attracted many fans who admire his charisma, both during his playing days and now as a coach. However, with the fame and love he gets, Coach Prime and his team also face some hostility, which includes dangerous situations like receiving death threats or possible physical assault.
Coach Prime’s Son Deion Jr.’s Reaction on Clip Detailing Hate Mail
With this negative attention, his head of security, Michael Rhodes, takes extra care when dealing with mail. As shown in a clip from season 3 of “Coach Prime” on Amazon Prime Video, he even wears nitrile gloves to avoid any contact with hazardous material.
“Coach gets a lot of mail every day. A lot of packages, a lot of gifts. As he stated publicly, he gets a lot of death threats, gets a lot of hate mail. So just as a precaution, we go through the mail very carefully. … If it’s a death threat, then what we’ll do is we’ll make a copy of it. One copy will go to CUPD. One copy will go to the FBI so they can analyze it for fingerprints or anything that may be helpful in identifying that person.”
Uploading the clip on his “Well Off Forever” Instagram page on Jan. 10, Coach Prime’s oldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., captioned it with: “Insane.”

While there is always extensive security surrounding Sanders, his players and sons are also in the limelight and get death threats occasionally. The team has to take extra precautions to fend off any aggressors.
In September, before the Colorado Buffaloes’ game against Colorado State, there were several death threats with Coach Prime being on the receiving end.
In another episode of Sanders’ series, Rhodes explained: “There was a very credible threat — two individuals trying to possibly tackle Coach either before, during, or after the game. So we had to have multiple law enforcement agencies there — SWAT team, CSUPD as well as Boulder PD.”

Rhodes and Sanders first met in Jackson State when the latter was a coach there, and Rhodes followed him to Boulder, Colo., in 2023.
“Everybody doesn’t love Coach. With all of the death threats, I don’t know who is who. I’ve got one job, and that’s to make sure that Coach is good, to make sure he’s safe so that he can go out and coach the team to a victory.”
