Deebo Samuel Sr. Injury Update: Lastest News Surrounding the 49ers’ WR

    Published on

Deebo Samuel's injury could impact the 49ers' offense and fantasy managers. We break down his status, recovery, and replacements.

ESPN NFL reporter Nick Wagoner just reported that San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. is dealing with a calf strain. He also reported that Samuel will miss a couple of weeks due to the injury.

Samuel left Sunday’s game with a calf strain, and we know he has had past injuries that have held him back in prior years.

Without Samuel, the 49ers’ explosive offense takes yet another hit and will need to find a player who can rise up amid this new injury.

Samuel was having an amazing game before leaving, as he had eight receptions for 110 yards. He will be a massive loss for the 49ers.

Will Deebo Samuel Sr. Play in Week 3 vs the Rams?

Samuel will at least miss Week 3 of the NFL season, which means we will have to rely on other sources within the fantasy football realm to help our rosters survive this injury period.

Who Are the Other Fantasy Options To Consider on the 49ers?

There are two ways to look into this injury: We can look inward at the 49ers and check waiver wires for Jauan Jennings, who is rostered in only 6% of Sleeper leagues. We can also look at rookie Jacob Cowing, who is available in 99% of leagues. Cowing, although small in stature, can bring explosiveness to an offense that struggles to keep its playmakers healthy. His rapid acceleration and advanced route-running skills create a diamond in the rough for fantasy football teams. If he does get on the field, his yards after catch can help you quickly seal the victory for the week on any reception. If you need a wide receiver specific pickup, our solution would be Jennings, who signed a two-year, 15.39 million dollar contract with the 49ers this past May. With Pearsall inactive and Samuel on the shelf for the foreseeable future, Jennings’ stock has never been higher within this offense. Kyle Shanahan must trust his veteran to produce and keep this offense afloat while Samuel and Christian McCaffrey are missing in action.

We could also try to trade for tight end George Kittle.

Kittle is an explosive talent who always steps up his game when his teammates are missing in action. If you need to elevate your roster at the tight end position, targeting Kittle would be a perfect way to bolster your weekly projections against your league-mates.

Kittle has run the fourth most routes of any tight end, with 60 for the season. He also has received 13 targets this year, the fifth most from his position. At the moment, Kittle is 11th overall in air yards per target, but with McCaffrey and Samuel on the inactive list, Kittle will need to get downfield more to provide an explosive component in the 49er’s offense. Purdy loves to target his tight end in challenging situations, as Kittle’s five first-down receptions are the fourth-best at the tight end position.
