49ers Star WR Deebo Samuel Explains Who He’s Rooting For in the Super Bowl and Why

On the "Cleats and Convos with Deebo Samuel," the 49ers wide receiver announced who he is rooting for in Super Bowl 59 between the Chiefs and Eagles.

San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. launched his weekly podcast, “Cleats and Convos with Deebo Samuel,” on Sept. 17, 2024. Since then, Samuel and co-host Liv Moods have had wide receivers from around the NFL on the podcast to discuss their lives on and off the field.

In leading up to Super Bowl 59, Samuel announced his winner on the podcast for the big game. The reason for his pick is likely from his past Super Bowl experience.

Who Does Deebo Samuel Want To Win Super Bowl 59?

On “Cleats & Convos With Deebo Samuel,” the former South Carolina prospect stated, “The Chiefs beat me twice, so I got all the reason to hate… It’s the Chiefs and the Eagles, you know, I got a love/hate for both, but I got all the love for my brother A.J. Brown over there, so l definitely want to see him win.

“I definitely don’t want to see [Patrick] Mahomes get the third one. I’m rocking with A.J. and Saquon [Barkley] with this one for sure.”

As Samuel mentioned, he and the 49ers have lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in two Super Bowls (54 and 58). In Super Bowl 54, San Francisco led the game 20–10 entering the fourth quarter but allowed 21 unanswered points to give Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs the victory.

Samuel logged five catches on nine targets for 39 yards in the game. He also produced 53 rushing yards on three carries in the losing effort.

The 49ers had their shot again last season against Kansas City in Super Bowl 58, but they fell short in overtime by a score of 25-22. It was their third consecutive Super Bowl loss.

Samuel had 11 targets in the game but only recorded three catches for 33 receiving yards. He also added eight rushing yards on three carries.

The 49ers went up 10-3 at halftime but couldn’t hold the lead in the second half. The Chiefs rallied back to force overtime. Mahomes threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in overtime, and Kansas City rallied, becoming the NFL’s ninth back-to-back Super Bowl champions.

The 28-year-old Mahomes became the fifth starting quarterback to win at least three Super Bowls, joining Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, and Troy Aikman. Still, Samuel doesn’t want to see a three-peat from Mahomes and the Chiefs, hoping the Philadelphia Eagles can stop them in their quest for NFL history.
