DeAndre Hopkins Fantasy Value: Should You Trade the Titans WR After Week 9?

After a much more subdued outing following his Week 8 explosion, should fantasy managers be looking to trade WR DeAndre Hopkins?

Just four short days after one of the best games of his entire career, DeAndre Hopkins predictably had a much less impactful performance. He followed up his 4-128-3 outing with a still respectable 4-60 outing.

With Will Levis likely the Tennessee Titans starter for the remainder of the season, should fantasy football managers hold Hopkins or look to trade him away?

    DeAndre Hopkins’ Rest-of-Season Outlook

The Titans have had to endure a pretty rough stretch of opposing pass defenses to start the season. Fortunately, things get a bit easier over the back half of the season.

For the remainder of the fantasy regular season, the Titans get the Bucs, Jaguars, Panthers, Colts, and Dolphins. Only Carolina ranks in the bottom half in pass defense.

Over the first half of the season, I was concerned Hopkins had lost a step. I never thought he was done, but I did think he wasn’t the guy he used to be. But after watching him these past two weeks, he still looks like DHop. At worst, he’s at 80-90% of his past self.

The biggest issue with Hopkins will be volume. While he is the Titans’ clear WR1 and really the only good wide receiver on the team, this remains a run-first offense. Although Hopkins saw double-digit targets on Thursday night, it was still just the third time all season he saw more than seven targets in a game.

Hopkins will never be a guy you are terrified to start. But despite the mega smash game last week, he doesn’t have the ceiling he used to.

    Should You Trade Hopkins?

Should You Trade DeAndre Hopkins for Gabe Davis?

Gabe Davis plays in a much more explosive offense than Hopkins. Playing with Josh Allen, Davis is always liable to catch multiple long touchdowns in a game. Of course, he’s also liable to catch two passes for 30 yards.

Davis has seen five targets or fewer in five games this season. But he’s coming off his best game of the year, catching nine of 12 targets for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Now is the time to sell Davis if you have him, not buy him if you don’t. If you’re looking to sell DHop, Davis is not the player I’d look for in a return package.

Should You Trade Hopkins for DK Metcalf?

Prior to Hopkins’ Week 8 blow-up game, these were two of the biggest underperformers this season at the wide receiver position. The difference with DK Metcalf is his targets have been there. He just hasn’t caught enough of them.

I still believe in Metcalf as the Seahawks’ WR1. He’s seen 23 targets over his last three games.

Before the season, I valued Metcalf well above Hopkins. Nothing in the first eight weeks has caused me to change that belief. If you can move Hopkins plus another player to get Metcalf, I would make that deal.

Should You Trade Hopkins for Jordan Addison?

If you asked me this one week ago, I would’ve been very gung-ho about Jordan Addison. He is the young, ascending talent. Hopkins is the old, declining (but not really) talent.

Unfortunately, Addison has since lost Kirk Cousins. Between that and Justin Jefferson’s imminent return, we have very likely seen the best of Addison this season unless Jaren Hall or Joshua Dobbs really surprises.

I wouldn’t necessarily trade Addison away to get DHop. But I’m not trading Hopkins to acquire Addison. This is one of those situations where you should just stick with the guy you have.
