Is David Njoku Playing in Week 17?

Njoku was questionable entering last week, but he posted his seventh top-10 week of the season and seems to be close to quarterback agnostic. His big play on Sunday was a 29-yard screen pass — a great design to beat a heavy blitz and one that he probably turns into six points if at full strength.

Even if he’s a bit compromised … even if the quarterback play in Cleveland is underwhelming … even if Miami is a top-10 pass defense in both yards per attempt and touchdown rate, you’re starting Njoku.

The more I look at my tight ends every week, the more I tend to believe that this is a position that rewards skill (be it athletic abilities or route running precision) over the situation, something that I’ll take into consideration when constructing my way-too-early 2025 overalls.

We’ll continue to monitor the Browns’ injury report. You can also visit and bookmark our NFL Injury Tracker and Fantasy News Tracker for the latest updates in real time.

Should You Start or Sit David Njoku in Week 17?

Njoku couldn’t practice all week due to a hamstring injury, and while the team kept him listed as “questionable” up until Sunday, he seemed like a long shot to play all long.

His practice habits this week will again be worth monitoring, especially with this a lost season for the Browns. They need all of their key options healthy to open next season as they (presumably) intend to go back to the well-compensated Deshaun Watson under center.

That said, if Njoku clears the health hurdles, you play him and feel good about it. He lit up this vulnerable Bengals defense back in Week 7 (10-76-1 on a 29.2% target share). With three top-five finishes at the position over his last four games, the athletic profile he provides this passing game with is worthy of lineup-lock status.
