Davante Adams is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, and he recently requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders. With everything going on, will Adams play in Week 5 when the Raiders face the Denver Broncos?
The Latest on Davante Adams’ Injury
No, Adams won’t be playing in Week 5, as the Raiders ruled him out for Sunday’s game due to his hamstring injury — the same injury that caused him to miss Las Vegas’ Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns.
Many wondered if Adams is actually dealing with a hamstring injury or if it’s just a way to get out of playing until a trade occurs.
However, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that “this is a real injury,” and executives who are pursuing the veteran wide receiver have been informed that Adams is expected to be sidelined for one or two weeks due to the hamstring issue.
Teams having conversations with the Raiders about Davante Adams have been informed his hamstring injury is expected to keep him sidelined 1-2 weeks. I’ve been told this is a real injury. He is expected to miss this week, but could be back next week if there are no snags.

With this in mind, it’s very possible that Adams has played his final game with the Raiders. A trade could go down within the next two weeks, ending his stint with the franchise.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders would be willing to deal Adams for a second-round pick and additional compensation.

During an “Up & Adams” appearance, Adams was asked for his reaction to people who believe he’ll never play another down for the Raiders.
“All I can control is this talk we’re having right here. And then, after we’re done with this, all I can control is the next thing that I’m on to,” Adams said, adding that he hasn’t been in communication with anyone from the organization.
Adams’ Fantasy Outlook
A late-week hamstring injury suffered in practice resulted in Adams missing his first game since joining the Raiders ahead of the 2022 season.
It’s possible that Adams will be traded soon, which is great news for fantasy managers with Adams on their roster since he should join a better offense and get a quarterback upgrade.
Through the first three weeks of this season, Adams’ per-target production (1.66) wasn’t much different than his first two seasons with the silver and black (1.69), but his target share has been significantly worse.
On-field target share:
- Weeks 1-3, 2024: 21.4%
- 2022-23: 29.6%
Adams’ aDOT has been slowly declining over the past two years, trending back to his rate with the Green Bay Packers. Short targets aren’t an issue if you’re playing for an Aaron Rodgers-led offense that ranks among the most efficient and potent in the league. They are, however, less enticing if you’re playing for the 2024 Raiders.
The sheer volume of targets got Adams to the finish line more often than not last season from a fantasy perspective, but just as the future Hall of Famer should benefit from a change of scenery, your fantasy team will be better off after he’s traded too.
