‘I Don’t Necessarily Need the 1700’ – Davante Adams Once Prioritized a Super Bowl Title Alongside Lamar Jackson Over a Career Year

After a brief and uneventful time with the New York Jets, wide receiver Davante Adams is now a free agent. The three-time All Pro player, who was traded to the Big Apple from the Las Vegas Raiders in mid-October, was released by the team on Mar. 4.

Davante Adams on Winning a Super Bowl

This also follows the news of the team letting go of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The idea was that reconnecting with Rodgers would bring New York the quarterback-receiver chemistry from their time in Green Bay, but it did not pan out as hoped.

Speaking of pairs, Adams has always admired Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. In September, before he faced Jackson for the first time in his career, Adam had said of the QB:

“Dude changed the game. He’s the best, in my opinion, best ball-carrier ever — no matter what position you want to talk about. I don’t think anybody’s as big of a threat carrying the football. … I was literally finding myself watching Lamar Jackson highlights in my locker before the games.

To add, in 2024, Adams had also insinuated that he’d rather win a Super Bowl with Jackson, even with fewer yards, than have a career year with 1,500 yards and no championship.

“This a long-winded answer, but to me, I think it’s funny that we judge who’s the best receiver off of who has the most yards anyway, because not everybody’s getting the same targets. The offense is not gonna be the same.

“To me, if you have thirteen hundred and somebody has fifteen and a half. To me, you can have the better season than them. … I’ve had big seasons, I don’t necessarily need the 1700. … If you give me a ball and I get to out there with Lamar and have fun, I think I might take the 8-900.”

Adams had a great season last year, with 85 catches for 1,064 yards and eight touchdowns between the Raiders and Jets. As he searches for a new team, the Ravens could be a good option for him. The franchise has Zay Flowers as their go to WR, but his injury during the playoffs could open the path for Adams.
